Ive had this sporter 1022 since new .I think I bought it around 1982 when I was 22 years old.Its has shot countless rounds of bulk ammo and was the very first gun my 2 boys learned on.It was also my second rifle the first being an old henry ar7 survival 22.Aprox 5 years ago I upgraded its old bushy 3x9 to a nikon 150bdc 3x9 rimfire scope.I shot it a few times and then it sat unloved in my gun safe for the last 4 years since I have been shooting bolt guns mainly.Anyway being that I have thousands of rounds of cheap bulk ammo and so so target ammo it was bugging me what to do with it.I contemplated selling it but resisted due to sentimental value.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago I wanted to do a trigger upgrade and try it again.I new the stock trigger would never do as i'm spoiled by my anshutz and tikka triggers.About 10 days ago I spot a NIB bx trigger and make a deal with seller. He says its a light trigger as he tried a bunch out.It shows 2.2 -2.5 lbs on my trigger guage.Make the swap and clean it and tighten up the barrel lug, takes all of 20 mins.
I took it to the range and it had a few jams with the spent rounds getting caught by the bolt.Other than that it was a lot of fun .The best ammo I had on hand was RWS pistol match and SK HV.Aguila HV seemed to work the best.Top left group had a first shot cold bore flyer otherwise it was a .523 average group with 9 shots. All my groups were 10 shot at 50yds with a 3x9 scope.I then used it shooting off hand for the rest of the day.
Anyway to me the trigger upgrade for a small price to pay was a very good upgrade and will allow me to enjoy this old girl well in to my retirement!!
I plan on some more ammo testing with some real target ammo.Is it challenge worthy ,I don,t think so but its a lot of fun and great to resurrect something thats been sitting around gathering dust.
