What are the options for breech loaders, or falling blocks (ie Ruger #1), that use factory loads?

Are there any repros of older styles such as a Sharps, that use current off the shelf ammo?
It looks to me like you need to roll your own for the Pedersoli rifles from Marstar for example.

I have a brochure here that came with my Uberti Hi Wall. it says they are available in 30/30, 38/55 40/65 44/40 45LC 45/70 45/90 45/120 308WIN and 30/40KRAG
The Uberti Low-Wall is available in .22LR .22MAG .22H .357MAG 30/30 38/40 38/55 44/40 44MAG and 45COLT.

Almost all of the old actions or copies can take the pressure of the factory loads that are intentionally made at BP pressure levels. I'm talking about the Rolling block, the Sharps, Ballard, Stevens 44, 44 1/2, etc. The cals. I am talking about are the 25/20,32-20,38/55,32/40,44/40, 45/70,etc. Highwalls and copies can take slightly heavier loads, but I wouldn't push them over 40,000psi. the one exception is of course the Ruger #1, which because it does not have an ext. hammer is not legal for some BP events. I would not pursue a highwall or copy in .308 Win. as pressure is in 50k psi range.

"...such as a Sharps..." Yep, but cheap they ain't. A Pedersoli .45-70 Sharps copy starts at $1180. A Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block copy in .45-70 starts at $1040. The Uberti 1885 Hi Wall copy starts at $1100. All at Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.
The Ruger #1 isn't a BP firearm. It doesn't come in .45-70 any more either. It does come in a whole bunch of standard hunting cartridges though.

According to Ruger's website, the Number 1 is available as a .45-70, 22" barrel open sights, blued or stainless.

The Rugers can be had in the complete range of factory chamberings from the .22 Hornet up to the 458 Lott.

Browning made high quality clones of the Winchester 1885 falling block for a number of years. They too come in a wide range of chamberings.


Here are a couple of my falling blocks that are as accurate as most bolt action and better than some. This Browning 1885 in 270 (at the rear) shoots well under a MOA with 150 grain Ballistic tips and the 30-06 Ruger #1 (in the front) LOVES the Barnes 168gr TSX and easily put 3 shots into an inch at 100m.

I bought a Ruger no 1 cuz I LOVE falling block actions and these are modern made with good steel. My gunsmith gropes mine when I bring it in for a tweek. I have installed a Hicks Accurizer in mine and with the reloads it will get even better. Sure is a beauty though-definitely a love thing and soon to be used on the grasslands-223 and plan to use it for yotes and chucks. The gunsmith told me it is a fave for modders making up big nasty actions cuz the No 1 action is so tough. Laughs at abuse. And they are a delight to shoot. Only one I have seen at the range and get lots of comments.

My nitpicking gene just picked up something!
ALL CF rifles are breechloaders. Bolt, break, falling or rolling block, autoloader, pump or lever.
I knew what you meant. Just bein' an annoyance.

theres also the break open ones.. thompson encores & contenders as well as the NEF/harrington richardson cheaper style.
