Breech Plug Grease????

Okay I bought a new TC Impact because I was tired of cleaning my MESSY Rem 700 Muzzleloader. I never had issues with the breech plug using a thin synthetic grease on the plug. As long as it was just finger tight it would come out easy.

The breech plug for the TC is a ##### to get out. I bought a tube of bore butter hoping it would work better. Hell no. That little wrench they give is USELESS. Even using the bore butter on it after about 12 shots I have to use a socket and ratchet to remove it and that is with a fair bit of force.

Anybody have this issue as well????

A better thread lube?

I hate how tight the plug is to remove.

I'm not sure its a lubrication issue, but automotive anti seize would be the next thing I would try. My favorite is a stick, like a crayon or grease pencil, I bought it at Part Source. It says it will prevent spark plugs seizing to aluminum. It's worked fine on my Savage muzzle loader.

I have a big container of Copper anti sieze that I use when I change barrels on my BR rifles. So embarrassing..........

Is there room for that? Teflon tape is usually used to attain a seal, and threads designed to seal are tapered. These are straight threads.

I have a Remmy Genesis, and unless I back the plug out every 2 or 3 shots, the plug gets seized and is a ##### to get out. Same results with numerous black powder lubes. I tried using an anti-seize concoction which you can get at tool supply shops, and it seems to have really helped.

Yes the tape works well. It may not seal up like it should with a traditional tapered thread but it does keep the crap out of the roots of the threads and stops them from sticking.

I'll have to give the teflon tape thing a try. Would be a lot handier than any goop I've used.

Stay with the TC teflon. I tried cheap'n it with all means of anti-sieze paste & tape for the automotive and plumbing worlds, but I am sticking to the TC tape now.

I use teflon tape in my T/C Omega. Seems to work just fine and no mess.

I have an Impact and I use bore butter, but I pull it out at least every 3 shots and apply more. I just snug it, not too tight...never had a problem.

I suppose that works but with t-tape or anti-sieze you apply once/remove once.......
