Brenneke 12 G slugs, which one?

Tagged for interest as I'm down to my last two boxes.

I have 2 boxes of those for my 16 gauge. Stumbled across them in a Canadian tire one day and only had money for 2 boxes. I'd love to find more in 12 as well as more 16's.

Sir you are exceptionally lucky to discover any sub gauge Brennekes in any Canadian store.
I have 12 gauge & 28 gauge myself.
IIRC, Calgary Shooting Center has 20 gauge 3inch Exact.
I have never heard of 16 Brennekes here other than your truly rare discovery.
Cheers

Interesting ... I wasn't aware ... that the Rottweil Brenneke Classic is not produced any more.

But the Rottweil Exact slug is a Gualandi slug as well .... as is the Challenger. So, it seems both companies (Rottweil and Challenger) have decided to use Gualandi slugs for their ammo .... and the Gualandi slugs are solid performers when it comes to penetration ...

http://www.gualandi.it/en/products_slugs/borra_proiettile.html

It's not so much it's not produced in Canada. It's just that the older Classic Rotweill Brenneke is no longer imported into Canada at this time.

Ok ... it seems the Rottweil Exact Magnum slug in 2 3/4 (not 3") has a muzzle velocity of 1476 FPS ....
and the Rottweil Exact slug (not Magnum) in 2 3/4 has a muzzle velocity of 1361 FPS ...

... and that is quite a bit less than the challenger.
So, the Challenger with 1610 FPS and with the identical Gualandi slug would penetrate deeper ....

If you want the ultimate ..... The THUNDERBOLT .... :)

Weight: 1 3/8 oz

And Ballistic Products has a published recipe with Steel powder and to push it to 1555 FPS ... But you have to load that one yourself .....

It appears your link is directed to law enforcement loads. I'd avoid using law enforcement shotgun ammunition for hunting/bear defense purposes since the LE stuff is usually loaded to minimize recoil and doesn't have the terminal performance of big game ammunition. If you can't find Brenneke slugs, Challengers are a suitable substitute.

have seen the way it works in wildboar in europe im sticking to brenneke and hope my last case i got will last for my life. not easy to find for sure.

I ordered a couple of boxes of the Challengers, hopefully they will be ok. If they don't look right when I get them, I'll send them back.

Yes you're right, I have corrected the OP. My mistake, it had to happen some day. I guess I unsuccessfully tried to link directly to their hunting ammo page, which can be seen by going here and clicking on the tab. Lots of varieties of hunting slug loads.

Ok, I contacted Irunguns ... It seems you can import up to 50lbs of ammunition with CAD $225.- as importing fees ... and on top of the actual cost of the slugs.

In short, yes you can bring in Brenneke slugs with Irunguns ... but this would make for some pretty expensive magic slugs .... especially if you just need 10 boxes like me ....

:(

Somebody wants to organize a group buy?

Till then, my bear gun is loaded with Challengers ....

Well, a returning bear biologist has just sold me two boxes of Brenneke Black Magic Magnum slugs for a very nominal price. They are 5 round boxes that she's carried around the NWT for a couple of years and which, since her life indeed may depend on them, she now wishes to replace next year; she buys them personally and is vague about where and how but I don't need to know. The shells themselves look mint except that some of the black finish has been chipped off the tips of the slugs, I can live with that. I'll be looking for at least 10 more rounds of 'super slugs' and if nobody reports any further issues with the Challenger version, I may buy those.
