I know my reloading friends will berate me for this however....

the other day I was at the outdoor range with my 4 shot, M37 Ithaca Deerslayer Police Special, with LAPD style rear sight and red acrylic front sight.

At 50 yards I had a three round cloverleaf of Brenneke Classic 12 gauge 2 3/4 inch slugs.

I personally, find them less punishing recoilwise, than the the typical Winchester Classic Super X, and these German slugs are more accurate with a harder alloy of lead....

Very much a confidence builder.

I'm sure a clover leaf is not uncommon with Brennekes, they have high ratings for accuracy in a smoothbore. Where did you buy your Brnnekes?
I bought some from P&D about 9yrs ago, they had PMC stamped on the box. I have'nt seen 'em since?

Rio cartridge (Spain) offers a Royale slug loadedwith Brenneke slugs. Alot of Ontario gunshops have imported Rio. I have found them to be very good shells in birdshot or slugs. My Rem 1100 shoots 5" groups at 100 yards with these slugs. (20" smooth bore)

cheers Darryl

I bought a case of 12 gauge 3" 600 gr. Rottweil Brenneke from Accuracy Plus in Peterborough Ont. I also found the recoil less punishing than 3" Federals. I plan to chronograph both when the weather warms up a touch.

Boomer, are these German slugs popular where you are at?

Any other brand names, in your opinion, worth it for Dinosaur killing and such???

As far as I know I'm the only one here who has ordered them. I've used them on and off for quite some time, but it was only last year that I found out Accuracy Plus was selling them. Most folks here are satisfied with fosters or Challengers. The Challenger isn't a bad design with regard to terminal performance, but I've heard that some folks have had accuracy issues with them. The slug I would really like to try is the Terminator Slugs from Dixie.

Question, who sells the 'Black Magic Magnum 3" ' shells?

I see WS has 3" shells listed but not particulars....

Thanks

I was at the range last Sunday and out of curiousity I fired three of my
PMC 2 3/4" Brenneke's to a 50yd target out of my Win. 1200 w/deer barrel & Carlson rifled choke, WOW:eek: , Let's just say there was almost 1 complete hole:eek: , OMFG!! When I get some more I will venture out to 100yds.
The slugs did however foul up the rifled choke, but one shot is that's needed most times and to think, I just ordered an NEF Tracker II in 12 gauge w/fully rifled barrel:shotgun:
Hopefully I can get the same groups from my Lee Drive key slugs? I doubt it.

My experience almost the same in regards to accuracy.
The fouling I suspect has alot to do with the felt wad, and the slightly softer lead vanes, something we will have to live with as it gives an excellent gas seal and a safe passage through any choke.

From what I have read, from the American Slug Shooters Association, if one was to switch to the Brennekes with the plastic wad, they often drive the point of impact higher on the target board, in relation to the near perfect impact point, for older felt wad design.

Al Simmons in Hamilton had a good supply when I was in a couple of weeks ago. $19.99 for a box of 10. They also had the Rios and I think they were $15.99.

I picked up a few boxes at the WS in Calgary a couple of weeks ago. They were $20.99 for a box of 10.

WS (calgary) told me via e-mail they did not carry the "Black Magnums" are these what you are referring to, or are you speaking of the deer hunting variety?

The Brenneke 2-3/4" Rottweil slugs are what WS carries. I don't recall ever seeing the Black Magnums at WS.
