I bought a restricted brigade manufacturing Makasi MK15 from Irunguns so to give you guys my first look ahead of the non restricted.

Overall, not a fit and finish guy myself, compared to many things I have seen before the Makasi is 4 out 5. They even lined up the top opening slot of the 3 prong flash suppressor. Machining on the outside is good, haven't got time open it up to see the inside.

Trigger is like the standard AR, nothing to write about. The stock LOP is shorter than I expect so it may not need a new stock. will measure it later on. It is about the same as the 4th pos of the typical 6 pos AR Lower

I look down the gas block - very tight clearance between top of gas block and hand guard. I pushed the barrel a bit and it should have enough space not to touch the barrel. however, the wire clip holding the gas plug in place to the gas block looks funny. It looks like the hand guard channel is pushing it out of place, and have it squeezed in between. will look into this later.

The barrel is not chrome lined that's for sure. The asymmetric magazine well is a bit funky for those who are used to the typical AR lower. It is hard to explain, but it is like you try to index it but half of the indexing template is gone.

Side charging handle is a bit of an issue for a type 2 malfunction bolt partially forward IA - probably the same for the canadian AR180 derivative too. I can kinda lock the bolt catch with some micro finger positioning while pulling the handle all the way backward, but it needs a bit of finer finger motor skill.

The Clip that holds the gas plug failed - I pulled the handguard the clip fell right off. But the spring pressure of the push rod will theoretically hold the plug in place against the gas block. Still - this is not well designed. Why put a small part there that doesn’t fit well and just come off? IMG_7052.jpeg
The handguard and barrel nut design is a direct copy of HK 416 and therefore Giessele - but the handguard is not exactly lined up with the barrel nut channels, and the bolts got forced into the barrel nut channels at a slight angle - so a bit of tolerance issue here IMG_7054.jpeg

The handguard and barrel nut design is a direct copy of HK 416 and therefore Giessele - but they are using oversized bolts and they eat into the barrel nut channel - so this is what hk does.View attachment 1153112
Fuk!

There is no steel insert into the bolt threads in the handguard - don’t take this on and off all the time IMG_7055.jpeg

The bolt carrier push rod “bump” is staked on like AR gas key. The combination of 2 springs is an interesting alternative to forgo the typical guide rod

Huh. I wonder if HK 416/MR556/MR223 barrels would work.... sounds like there's a good chance the barrel would mount onto the upper receiver. Probably unlikely the piston would fit the HK gas block. Might be an intetesting project for someone who wants to switch the barrel for a better one.

HK handguards may even fit....

Interested to see if this is a common issue as they start rolling in or if you got something outa spec

That Clip to secure the Gas Plug in position has bothered me from the outset with this rifle, based on earlier video reviews. That said, it is a somewhat inconsequential part since spring pressure from the Push Rod holds the Gas Plug in position against the Gas Block. Still, kind of a silly design choice, even if as the designer has stated, you need not clean the gas system all that frequently.

If you planned to switch back and forth between suppressed and non-suppressed with a conventional back-pressure can, the frequent removal and replacement of the Handguard could cause an issue with stripping the Handguard's threads. As it stands in Canada however, Suppressors are not an option so this should not be an issue for the foreseeable future. The need to remove and replace the Handguard in order to switch the Gas Plug from Non-Suppressed to Suppressed could be avoided entirely by investing in a flow-through Suppressor, which eliminates the need to switch the Gas Plug at all.

There should be Steel Heli-Coils in the Handguard Threads, period. The screws not perfectly matching the Grooves in the Barrel Nut is a tolerance issue for sure. One that ought to be corrected with a tooling adjustment.

A sufficiently long flathead screwdriver will allow switching the gas block settings without taking the handguard off, but what's the point of doing that anyways.. I'm wondering what's the correct torque setting for those handguard bolts.
