Having owned a Crypto in darker days, I am not the least bit interested in another Cursader Arms product. The Backland Comp's extensive AR compatibility is promising, however the hybrid rifle with a shotgun recoil system is wonky to my eyes. The bottom line for me however, is that I simply don't trust Cursader to make a quality product. Their anodizing was all over the map with mismatched Upper and Lower Crypto Receivers. If you can't get your finish consistent, what else about the rifle is poorly executed or out of spec? Makes me far too nervous to spend my money on another of their products - at least until I see a sea-change in reviews from satisfied Canadian owners.

Hypothetically, an internal piston, DI-ish Makasi should be quite possible. The piston impact surface would have the be swapped with a gas key, gas ports would have to be added to the BCG. Or you just shorten an AR BCG to have the as same dimensionas as the Makasi's. The usual trade-off of less forward weight and more fouling in the receiver would apply. See the CMMG Dissent for a similar DI-ish operation with a 180 style recoil recovery system.

I picked one up after seeing his video from optics planet. After the duties, weak dollar, and fedex fees, it has ended up being the same price as a decent gun.
It is a beautifully well made stock though and I'm dying to get it on the Makasi, whenever that may be.

Don’t sweat it brother. I think the word is out that they’re a dud. Sadly I think if I ever want to get to enjoy a Steyr Aug or AR 15 again I need to move stateside.

I wouldn't worry about people attributing their choices to the fact that you started a thread. Chances are, nobody even notices who authored what, let alone what they thought of the product in question. Bottom line? Nobody cares that you started an initially supportive thread. You have made it abundantly clear that your opinion has changed for the worse.
As for the Makasi, time will tell the tale. Personally, I think that the "issues" have been blown far out of proportion in relation to their effect. Handguard Retention Screws leaving thread "witness marks" on the Barrel Nut? Time to reconsider purchasing decisions! A Charging Handle that impinges upon the Handguard until the clearance self-corrects? Cancel all orders!! The rifle requires a break-in period? It must be defective!!! Picatinny Rails out of spec? The Makasi is junk!!!!
Nobody is suggesting at this point that the Makasi is perfect in every regard. It has minor tolerance issues, none of which apparently impact upon the rifle's practical performance. Fit and finish are not perfect, but are far from a "train-wreck" as some have described the rifle. It is what it is - a boutique rifle of unique design whose advantages far outweigh its "issues" in my personal opinion. Faced with no alternative that I can stomach, the Makasi is the best option on the table, period. Continuing to repeatedly harp on about the same handful of issues serves no purpose - the shortcomings of the rifle have been discussed and disected in detail several times over in every available forum. The doubter's work is done - no need to keep flogging a dead horse.
I am sticking with the Makasi, hopeful that Brigade Manufacturing has rectified most of the "issues" with the first Canadian shipment as promised. We shall see. I am not abandoning the Makasi at this point, as I assign little importance to the cosmetic tolerance "issues" that have led to so many cancelling their orders with lemming-like predictability. Even if the issues persist, provided that they do not affect the performance of the Makasi I simply don't care about thread witness marks and sticky Charging Handles that remedy themselves with use. As long as the rifle feeds 5.56mm, fires it reasonably accurately and reliably spits out the empty casings? I don't much care about minor fit and finish issues at this point. I just want a decent-looking rifle that functions reliably, and the alternative isn't going to do it for me. So the Makasi it will have to be, warts and all....

Still, as you say, this is a dead horse, so why keep the thread going? Someone, anyone can start another extolling what have you about the platform, but this thread has run its course and should be expunged imho.
Just because (in your view) a thread has "run its course" is no reason to expunge its otherwise useful content. Indeed, the thread shows a shift in how many view the Makasi rifle over time, and that alone may be a useful read for many who have yet to consider the rifle or visit this thread. Knowledge is power, and this thread contains knowledge, so why deny that to other visitors to the site?
We need a thread (or two) discussing the Makasi, if only to ensure that everyone considering this rifle is aware of its ongoing fit and finish shortcomings. This thread delivers in that regard, leaving it to individuals to make decisions based upon their own priorities and mechanical self-confidence/competence.
I'd say leave this thread alone for others to digest. Your opinions regarding the Makasi are clearly expressed, as are mine - offering readers two differing perspectives on the very same rifle. I think that there is merit in having that all written down for others to cosider and potentially benefit from.
Just my $.02.....
