Brigade Makasi MK15 We're back in business!!

LOL, admittedly, it's a bit autistic, but if someone has a beautiful, precise barrel sitting in an AR collecting dust or attached to a manual action chassis, a DI Makasi may be of interest. If Kodiak Arms can make an AR trigger/ pistol grip / buffer stock lower for the Akdas Alcor, would it not be possible to make a custom Makasi BCG, for example?
I thought about this concept upon originally seeing the Makasi as well. There's a few routes it could take but none that are easily designed/manufactured and done so reliably. The best way I can think of making it more AR parts compatible would be to make a custom gas key/strike surface and drill/mill out a bit of the front of the upper receiver in order to make it fit a Superlative Arms piston kit that you could then use with whatever AR barrel you choose. There isn't a real reason to try to convert the platform into DI.

BTW, if there's any gunsmith machinist willing to do what I wrote above, I'd be very interested!

That would be simpler. I like how their gas block is adjustable. Maybe they would be willing to make and send you the strike surface to attach to the Makas bolt? Or you could have a Smith like B-wing pilot do it locally, like you suggest. I'm a bit wary of a single piece piston after the WK, though.

Another possibility is someone making an adjustable gas block like Superlative's that fits the Makasi's piston, and mid and rifle length pistons that are equivalent to the existing longer piece of the Makasi'a multi -part piston. A many setting gas block may not be necessary, if there is still enough tension in the springs to cycle mid or rifle length properly, though the gas port may need to be widened out a bit. At least there are two settings on the Makasi's gas block, so if you drill it out too much and it cycles too violently you could try the suppressed setting.

First thing I plan to do when mine shows up is completely strip it and see what upgrades I can come up with.

Looking like tarrifs are going to screw me a bit so I'll probably have a lot of spare machine time this winter...

This is what kind of gets me to lean over the makasi vs the carmel ...
At least the makasi we have similar bolt heads and it's quite a bit lighter and we can somewhat work around and improve the platform a bit ... not so for the carmel ...

I could see a Grendel/6ARC/22ARC Makasi ... not so for the Carmel ...

Also the ability to swap uppers down the road ...

If you have some fancy AR barrel you would be better off getting a backland hunter comp and putting it on there as that rifle is already DI instead of trying to butcher up a Makasi trying to make it work

Hell no. After seeing all the pieces of crap they've put out and the way Crudsader does business, they're never seeing a cent of mine. I'd much rather modify the Makasi to make it exactly what I want than deal with CruArms.

I’m not saying the crusaders are the best thing I’m just saying it’s stupid to try an mod a piston gun to be DI…
Besides the costs to try to do so and all the hacking and modifying that would need to be done, plus the fact you would have zero warranty from brigade, it’s not worth it

Making a mid or rifle length piston does make more sense. I wonder if Brigade could be convinced to do a DI variant if they have lot of success here? They have all the compnents already, as they do make regular ARs...

mid length might be ok. carbine has been found to be the best

Rifle no. Forward weight and the rod would whip or flex

Point taken in the rifle length, thank you.

Third Echelon used to sell mid length pistons for the WK. He has said he would need to measure the Makasi piston with a micrometer to see if the WK one would work. I believe he was located in Edmonton, so if anyone is interested and wants to bring him the pistons to measure, they can reach him at operations at thirdechelon dot ca .

Carmel is getting an optic, weapon light, IR designator, and that's it. Then it's my new legal workhorse.

Makasi is going to be my new tinker rifle. It might spend more time taken apart in the shop than on the range. 😂

For those who don't mind fifty shades of FDE for their FDE Makasi rifles, forum business member RDSC has the Magpul UCS 1913 stock in FDE, and may be able to get the Midwest Industries Alpha 1913 stock in FDE (they have the black one in back order, so you will have to ask if they can back order the FDE). True North Arms is bringing in FDE pistol grips, hand stops, and foregrips from BCM, B5, and Magpul.

I think the FDE Makasi looks about perfect the way it comes
I think everything in FDE color will be too much
When BCL came out with that Siberian?? That had the upper only in FDE and everything else in black, well that thing was hideous

Agreed, fifty shades of FDE ain't for everyone, but I thought I'd let people know for those who like it when I saw the FDE stocks as options on Brownell's BRN-180 page.

Hit the gym, Nancy
I’m just half kidding … I’ve also kitted my rifles to a 13.5lbs boat anchor with lpvo, clip on thermals, light, laser and bipods … and muzzle brakes and blast shield and slings and spare batteries and spare bcg .. that’s like half the fun but it’ll always amuse me how these get heavy real quick … especially when they start at 8.5 lbs
