Okay guys, here's the deal.....
I've Been shooting trap and skeet for a very long time, with a break in between for BP trap.
I've shot lots of 12's and 20's, but never a 28, and know nothing about 28 guage.

The Tikka 412S I have has a set of rifle barrels , and a set of 12 guage barrels with Briley adapter tubes for 28 guage.
The first round I shot with it today, I dropped only four birds, and this was after shooting rifles all summer, so the gun fits.
however, I was wondering about the chokes in the tubes - they are marked
"51SK" and ".544 .
The tubes themselves are marked .550 bore.
Are these chkes more for a bird gun, or skeet, and what do most guys use as far as shot size goes.

Both the fellas that were 28 guage fanatics have moved away, so I can't consult them.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.....

I'm assuming you have full length gauge tubes.

Based on http://www.briley.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=51
It looks like you have something close to Skeet Chokes in these tubes.

They will work fantastic with grouse and the such.

I only use #9s as my primary use is for skeet, but it would really depend on the application, and availability of ammo.

Brad.
Yup, they are full length, the fancy blue jobs!
I tried to get to the site this evening but couldn't ( computer thing...)
The shot I was using today wasn't 9's , I think it was 71/2!

Thanks for the info, I figured one of you "4 guage" types would jump in soon enough!:D

I would not supect this is a 28 gauge problem! Since you have previous experience with trap, I would suspect the gun tube combo for your lousey score. 9s or 7 1/2s shoul break most 16 yard targets. Have you patterned the combo for point of impact at target distance?

Actually all the missed targets were called by me, I knew it as the triggger was breaking.
I even missed both the single and double low 7 because the gun was pointing a bit off when I shot!
Missed the 4 high, and the 5 high ( stopping!)

Please forgive my misread of your original post. When you said that you dropped only 4 targets, I thought that you meant that you only hit 4:redface: thus my lousey score comment:D If you only hit 4, it would have been much more of a 28 gauge problem.

Try saving the picture to your computer (right click and it should be an option). Then try and print it. You may have more luck that way.

If not, PM me your email address and I send it to you on a 1 page PDF.

Cheers,
Brad.

I got it finally, thanks Brad!
I was actually just mildly interested in the chokes, because the the gun shot so weell I wasn't going to change anything!
I also did pretty good with the 12 guage , even with the f/m tubes in it!
