I just picked up a used set of 28 gauge Briley sub-gauge Companion tubes. They are a bit shorter (about 1/2 inch) than the barrels on my Browning Citori 625. Is that normal?

Also, there is a bit of play between the tubes and the bore of the barrel when the tubes are installed. Any trick that I should know of to shim the tubes, without making them too hard to remove.

Hey

I too use companions - they are shy the 1/2" as well - guess that is the way they come. My 28 ga set has a little wiggle at the muzzle. I put in tighter chokes and couldn't get enough choke to stop it - so I got a little electrical tape and did a couple of wraps unitll it was just snug. I patterened before and after and it didn't make any difference. Makes me feel better though.

Bill:

What you describe is exactly what I have observed on mine. I also measured the fat part of the tube and they are well under the nominal bore diameter of my barrel.

Did you put the tape at the end, or over the bulge that is about 2-3 inches back of the end?

Hey Paco

I put the tape at the end of the tube where it will contact the choke - it made it easy to get it just right, I put a little more on than needed than just kept removing a little bit of tape at a time - slidding the choke over the end of the tube untill it was seated properly the 1/2" back - no need to keep pounding the tube in and out - I just did it with the tubes and chokes out side of the barrels. I've shot thousands of rounds through them this way and the tape looks like it did when it went on and still fits like when I first did it.
Hope that makes sense - not real rocket science.
