Couple of comments.
The Mk3 Sten was the only version that was dropped while the war was still in progress. Simplification had been taken one step too far.
The STEN was made in underground factories in all of the german occupied countries and even the Germans made a version
While the VW was touted as the "people's car" most germans were not able to buy one until AFTER the war. The military took just about ALL of the production during the war.

Oddly enough the Russians were offered the VW factory as war reperations BUT they turned it down!
