For all you guys and gals who hunt overseas something I haven’t checked into is returning home with my rifle. So rather than actually research the subject I thought I would ask the internet and potentially get entertainment and education simultaneously.

No problem bringing the same firearm back that you temporarily exported for personal use during a hunting trip abroad, so long as you have retained all the proper paperwork to export it in the first place.

We travel to the US several times a year to hunt. On the Canadian side you stop and get a form that was a form Y38 but the new form is BSF 407 Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation this form proves the firearm originated in Canada. If you have the old registration form it also proves the Canadian origin.

I have never done this...do you not get a form6NIA from the ATF? Or is your scenario from when you are just passing through the US to another part of Canada?

As a dual citizen I don't need paperwork to temporarily import firearms into the US for sporting purposes but I need paperwork to bring them back to Canada my buddy's use the form 6nia but they have shown it on the Canadian side and the officer said that's fine now where is your CANADIAN paperwork

Do a google search on importing firearms into Canada and it will take you to the RCMP website. You also have to follow the exporting rules from the country of origin as you would be the exporter also

Ok, thanks. I have taken guns over a few times with a form 6NIA. Canadian side has never cared coming home. That is just MY experience however.
I have no experience with an oversees trip.
