Ok so this maybe a noob question but I cant seem to find anything in the hunting course book or online. I've gone through the whole process and finally looking to go hunting. My question is, can I bring my brother or maybe a friend along with me? Neither have hunting license nor PAL, wont be hunting/shooting and over 18. They're just there to keep my company and learn. Does it matter where as well since I will have access to private land and also might go hunting in a prov park. I'm only hunting for rabbits and maybe some other small game if I get the chance.

I would think its ok especially on private land but with our legal system I figured I'd ask. I'll be hunting in quebec if that helps.

In ontario its generally acceptable as long as they arent actively participating in the hunt. IE they cant be chasing animals towards you or flushing them from brush piles etc. Technically a CO could lay a charge however ive never heard of it happening. Pretty much every kid who grew up in a rural area learned to hunt by following in dad or grandpas footsteps long before they were licensed to do so.

I can't speak for Quebec.

It varies depending on what province you are in because hunting regulations vary between provinces. E.g. in this province you could bring them along as long as they complied with the dress requirements (specified high visiblity colours must be worn on the head and upper body.)

Have them wearing Blaze Orange and camera equipment.

YOU are the BOSS, make sure they stay behind line of fire at all times... Cannot stress this enough.

As long as their not hunting no problem. As stated above they have to dress to regs. Just remember the larger the group the smaller your chances to harvest.

My wife comes with me when I'm bird hunting. She carries the water and a camera.
She can spot a "ditch chicken" from 100 yards away, but won't retrieve after the shot!

yep I'm bringing a friend along, He's ex Brit Army

so first I got him his wildlife card,

then I got the hunter host paperwork, for a non-resident alien.

then I got him a temporary firearms licence

so now all thats left is to get him a hunting tag, it's the most expensive part

but its going to be a good time.

They are not required by law to wear blaze orange during the hunt (not in Ontario anyway). I just recently had a discussion with a CO about that. But for safety reasons they should

I second that!
Some years ago I was posted in an Ontario WMU during shotgun season.
I heard a deer coming behind me and turned very slowly.
Shotgun with sabot slugs up, safety clicked off and through the scope (1X) I finally make out
a fully camouflaged hunter in his early 20's stalking upwind towards me.
Shotgun came down, safety put on and pointed away.
We had a little chat.
I told him "I almost had you down and gutted".

I didn't say it but I thought he was out of his mind stupid!
I saw him next midday. Blaze hat on, no blaze vest.

I can understand perhaps in a province where there is a hunter behind every tree and lots of yahoos that you wear blaze orange for your safety.

but not required everywhere, I never wear it and I feal safe hunting.

I understand that.
I have read that the introduction of blaze orange clothing generally has greatly reduced hunting accidents.
In areas of true wilderness it may not be required but I would feel more comfortable with a least a blaze orange hat.
"Yahoos" can be found everywhere, can they not?

Ontario minimum requirement for Orange is a full blaze vest and hat during deer season. Actually during deer season it is required to hunt all game species.

I personally think that orange gives people a false sense of safety.

but in your case you need to know what the Quebec regulations are

which I have no idea. :)

the way the regulations are writen for Alberta if someone is with you while hunting and the CO decides they might be helping you then they are hunting too.

Only once gun season starts for deer is when blaze orange is required. That only applies to the individual hunting. The friend does not require any blaze orange since they are not hunting

Remember a 'friend' that comes along for the hunt is not allowed to participate in any way. This means all parts of the hunt, including field dressing & removal of the harvested animal.
