Hello Gents,

Did a search on this forum and didn't find much on this specific topic.

While BP Muzzle loaders were mentioned and real antiques in depth only found a smattering of info on new cap and ball revolvers.

So it's legal while in the states to buy one for us Canuks, but how do we get it into Canada?

Would it be better to get it imported via some of the board sponsors or is there an easier way?

Thanks for your time, trouble and consideration.

Best regards,

Garry

I've never done it but you might be able to have one mailed to you if you register it and get an ATT in advance and have the seller put that in the box for customs. Because of its legal status in the USA it shouldn't fall under the export restrictions. Can you legally posess an antique/muzzleloader in the states as a non-resident?

If you want to bring it in yourself, you would need to register it in advance and get an ATT from the point of entry to your house. You would also need to comply with the transport regs for restricted firearms while going from the border point of entry to your house. At the border, have your registration, ATT and receipt in your hand to give to the border guard at the appropriate moment in your conversation.

BP handguns made after 1998 are dealt with using the same import and ownership rules as any handgun. They're not considered to be antiques in Canada.
"...better to get it imported via..." Better to just buy it here.
