Bringing Scopes Into Canada

I have been to the states many times and just last time the DHS had a check stop on the way back.....there first question was "have you been to Cabelas". Of course we did, but it was a quick "we have no ammo or firearms" and we were on our way.

I've been stopped a few times on the way out of the US where the US border service poked around inside the vehicle looking for whatever stuff they look for. This happened at Portal, North Dakota; Pembina, North Dakota; and Port Huron, Michigan. They're polite people even if occasionally a bit enthusiastic about their role in things.
I think it's a stupid thing for them to worry about, but it's their country and it wouldn't be worth the risk to me to try and beat them at their game.

i got detained at the us boarder about 5 years ago because i didnt have my citizen ship card. ive been in canada since 1986, im a canadian citizen, but didnt have a card from when i became a citizen in like 1991. it wasnt racial profiling, im polish, blond hair blue eyes pale complexion. so they were just being themselves and detained us for 5 hours. that was fun

Fedex ground, shipped from John Smith in the USA. Scopes are the same tariff code as binoculars. Declare full value. Nuff said.
Supply meets demand. Simple. Create enough of a demand in your country for a firearms product (that's not illegal) then companies will go through the hoops to import them or ship to your address. 
Also most of the scopes you see here in the U.S. are not made here. They're made overseas. So why ##### about U.S. export laws for optics made in Japan and China?
I don't like the anti-terrorism laws we have either. I don't like being groped by ### offenders of the TSA. I hate I have to "prove" my citizenship every time I look for a job after I spent 20 years serving in the military. I hate my own government but love my country. I hate they treat me like a criminal for owning guns but our own BATF makes straw purchases and inadvertantly sends the guns to drug lords in Mexico. But we do the PC thing and treat everyone the same or we just round up all people who don't look "American" and execute, deport, or intern them till there is no more threat. We did that before you know. Actually we don't treat everyone the same. The southern border is wide open because us lazy Americans need someone to paint our houses, mow our lawns, and nanny our kids.
How about amongst ourselves we form USCANU (United States Canadian Union). Our common currency can be bacon. We abolish all our gun laws and start with US Constitutional law. I'll meet you guys in a pontoon boat (redneck party barge) in the middle of Lake Erie to work out the details.

Clearly you were detained and investigated under suspicion of pierniki smuggling...
haha trust me, those wouldnt have made it to the boarder with me, they would have been eaten long before. maybe they detained me because they wanted some. explains the 3 cavity searches by the lady with small hands. although she didnt seem too interested when i offered to return the favor, lol
The reason why Midway USA doesn't ship ANYTHING out of the US is because they were caught shipping scopes out of the US without permits. They weren't aware that all scopes required permits.
254 scopes shipped without permits cost them $330k plus their own legal fees, PLUS years of scrutiny by DoS, ATF etc...
Zeiss USA was fined $10k for shipping 10 scopes to Zeiss Canada!!!

Can anyone tell me if there is a $100 limit on things still?
Before anything over $100 had to have paperwork (exportation documents) and anything under was exempt. Is this still the case?
Please excuse me if this has been covered, but the above message of "ALL optics and barrels" would mean that this has changed.

The $100 limit only applies to REGISTERED EXPORTERS. They STILL have to report the export to the US Department of State, they just don't need an individual export permit for the shipment.
Optics, and major firearm components, receivers, barrels, bolts, etc, were never exempted.

So then I might as well try and order said parts through prophet river or someone willing to do export paperwork?
For a country thats in such big debt with a failing economy, youd think they would be looking how to export more product, instead of making it more costly and prohibitive for exportation. Especially when alot of their exportable merchandise is made in other countries, why deal with the middle man anymore?
