British Columbia: Public input sought on hunting regulation changes

we are talking about people submitting limitted entry draw applications with zero intention of hunting the animal in question. This is wrong and a way needs to be found to make such behavior an offense.

So let them buy the draws.

Unless they actually buy the tags, (for which they need to produce a Hunter Number Card, that they needed to take a Core Course for) and record that they harvested animals, as I see it, the main end result of their silly little game, is a higher number of tags being drawn in an effort to bring harvests to the level that comes closer to the number that they decide can be sustained.

Not saying they don't lie on their Hunter Surveys too, but it makes for a long, drawn out, version of their petty foolishness that they have to keep their story straight on.

And in the end, their petty efforts amount to spitting in the ocean hoping to cause a flood. Not very effective.

Boo, those huge domestic turkeys have escaped and turned feral? Are there wild turkey out there?

I suspect the feral turkeys will be bronze birds set loose by the same idiots who transplant bass and yellow perch into productive trout waters.

There are true wild turkeys in BC but on the very South mainland. They are the descendants of wild birds originally stocked in Idaho many years ago.

How long ago was that given that the following name for turkey was recorded in BC circa 1890.

Gonatklatankuts

What language is that?

The BC government tried to introduce Wild turkeys - Merriam's - around 1910 into Southern BC but they didn't do well and died off. In the 1960's birds introduced into Idaho started showing up in BC and have since spread up through the Kootenays on into the Southeast Okanagan.

No. I would assume it is the provinces biologists in most cases,

To me the mule deer reduction however smells like it is tainted by input from the hunting guides association who have been pushing for a reduction in the mule deer buck kill for several years.

Not sure about your region , but in the south end its very tough loven for mule deer bucks , the days of nice mature bucks have been missing for the last3-4 years even the spike-2 point bucks have few + far between .
Mule deer ## are way down the tube other than the "city" deer .
Don't think blaming the Guides is doing any good .

If you are seeing fewer deer then make your comments to the province.

Regardless of the outcomes I really want the province to see that we hunters want to be involved in the decision making. I don't want future fish & game decision to be made by the general public most of whom don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision.

Interesting thought process you have ch312.
So just suppose the wardens/co's or whatever they are called now a days finds these folks and
garners them LEH success?
It's a win win for all except those that hunt?

I'm curious to know how they decide whom wins on LEH's?
Oh, I like this name.
This name is suckie............trash.

I replied to a letter sent to me with a nasty edge to it.
Next LEH I was successful.
Coincident?
Doubt it.

Fill yer bewts folks...............while you can.

You've been on CGN long enough to know that I take pride in thinking outside the box and playing devils advocate. I understand the first reaction from hunters in the area would be anger because this results in fewer tags for hunters. But, this game by the anti's results in fewer game being harvested, fewer hunters in the bush, less hunters for CO's to check and theoretically more game for the following season. If there's only a small percentage of tags being sold to anti's, I just can't see it being a big deal.

It's likely impossible to prove, but anyone have any idea how many anti's are buying tags?

An offense for buying a tag and not using it? How would the courts determine if it's an anti who bought the tag with no intent of using it or a hunter who simply didn't fill the tag due to unforeseen circumstances? You'd need conservation officers to investigate, lawyers to battle it out, and courtrooms/judges to oversee this nonsense. Not going to happen.

I wonder if there is some opportunity to make comments on ATV and OHV use?

Accessibility to previously difficult to hunt areas through the use of these vehicles has had an impact on game populations when perfectly physically able people use gasoline over boots to hunt.

There must be a way to make suggestions to request the introduction of more motor vehicle restricted areas unless some one can prove a physical handicap, serious medical condition or advanced age (say 70 and over).
