Were British contract 1911's chambered for the .455 Webley 200gr RN automatic pistol round modified to function with that cartridge? If so, what was done?

The pic in COTW shows a very blunt nosed cartridge with an OAL of 1.23"

I just got my pee-pee slapped for re-posting this question on the militaria forum. Seems you have to be asking some idiotic question or be asking a ridiculous price for a used gun to be within guidelines.

Ask this question in the Milsurps section, and you'll get chapter, verse and page number from the production line manual

From what I've read, they were chambered for the .455 Webley (the slide has 455 colt on it), but many of them were re-barrelled to 45acp when they were sold post-war in North America.

thats because you posted in the Milsurp EE forum not the Milsurp forum ;) asking for information in the EE is not going work.

I'm moving this thread to the Milsurp discussion forum.

Perhaps the answers to the OP's question(s) will be found in discussion there. ;)

The barrels are defnitely unique, but I had thought the same magazines were used. The slide and frame are interchangeable with the .45ACP models, but are marked differently as I recall. We have a member here who collects these specifically, if you stick around he will show up and know far more about these than I ever will.

Thanks for the feedback!

Reason I'm asking is that my Gold Cup loves .452 200 gr RNFP's and feeds them reliably, but with the same bullet, my R1's will occasionally not go into battery. Think of the classic 230 RN with a meplat and that's the bullet design.
A loaded round looks very much a Webley 200 gr .455 auto round, but not quite as blunt. So, I'm thinking the Brit .455 1911's had a mod'd feed ramp or I have an extractor problem with my R1's. Both R1's feed 180 gr SWC's reliably.

The mags are not interchangeable....well, only in one direction. The .455 auto is a longer round and if you put in a .45 acp mag in a 1911 in .455 it will rattle and there is about 3/32 inch slop.
The .455 mag will not fit a 1911 in .45 or if it does probably the gun has been modified.
.455 mags will normally have a loop and the gun serial number stamped on the bottom lip of the mag and most times .455 and a broad arrow.
If you want the official spec's on the .455 auto round PM me.

The mag well on the .455" Govt models was about .01" wider to accomodate the wider mag. The .455" frames were stamped with an E inside by the disconnector.
