If you know what this gun is let me know! It has the following:
- 'Tower' stamp
- 'GR' stamp
- ~0.75 bore (not rifled)
- 32" in length of barrel
- 46'' total length (appears to have been shorten)
- was changed from flint lock to percussion cap

Looks like a Short Land Musket shortened and converted to percussion.

Yes

Look at the imprints in the stock in the last picture.

The thumb plate even looks scrubbed in picture 3 and 4!

Dam, I wish that old boy was whole!

No sideplate.
The fit of the lock among the bottom is not good. Replacement?
Could it be an old restock?

That appears to be a Pattern 1777 Short Land Musket. Brown Bess.
-2 sear screws at lock.
- last of the wristplates.
-sideplate last of the long version.
- 3rd pipe, of 4, in pic meets the sling swivel screw.
-buttplate Irish variant during U.S. Revolutionary War.
Converted, chopped down and more. If left alone last 2 hundred+ yrs would be worth a new compact car, now just a few cases of beer. Sad but very common. The original condition 1777 is a scarce musket. If you plan on restoring, it will be very difficult with what you have, but it can be done.

A modified brown bess? or a successor?

There was no flintlock successor to the bess, it was replaced by the '53 Enfield.

OP - That's a brown bess converted to percussion. Missing the left side lock plate. It's definitely been shortened and the stock reworked.

Not all Bess' had a sideplate. I have a contract Bess by Clark in 1796 pattern without one also careful checking finds the lockplate 1/4" shorter than a Tower piece altho' internals are interchangeable. So many variables as so many were made.

Looks like you can see the impression from where the lock plate was, though - the wavy line between the screws. Plus the darkening around the screw heads. Maybe not, but suggests it to me.
