I need some advice. I have recently bought two of my "dream rifles". One is a 1949 BRNO 22F in 7x57, the other a 1950 21H in 7x64 Brenneke. I absolutely love these rifles. I don't want to mess them up, but I need to do something to make them more "shootable". They both have very good open sights, with 100 and 200 Meter leafs and a good front bead. But my 50 yr old eyes are not very iron sight compatible any more. The 22F has double set triggers that just don't work very well, the unset pull is 10 lbs, and the set mechanism sometimes will not kick off the striker.
The old 3x Meopta scope is obsolete IMHO. It came with a very nice QD skeleton mount, but the mount requires a scope with a tiny ocular lens to clear the bolt handle. Similar problem with scope/mount for the other rifle.
1) Is there a factory or custom QD peep sight available that could be used on the factory receiver dovetail on these rifles?
2) can the butterknife bolt handles be modified (and still maintain their good looks) to clear a low mounted scope?
3) is there a good after market adjustable single set trigger available to replace the double set?
Anyone experienced with these rifles, please advise!

- and by the way, the 7x57 still works great for deer!

I noticed that Nechako has just mounted a Leupold VX111 2.5-8 on his 21H. Looks like he found some decent mounts to fit the dovetail receiver. I have posted a reply to him as well. I am looking for a set of mounts for my 21H.

He may be able to solve both of our scope mounting issues.

If you find a peep sight to fit the dovetails, I would definately be interested in getting one as well. Please keep me in the loop if you have and success finding a peep sight.

If you want a single set trigger (Timney for one) - you will have to change the floor plate as well from the double slot version. I believe there are factory single trigger models out there - but I have never seen one.

Try adjusting the little set screw between the two triggers very slowly and carefully while trying the set trigger - it should break clean everytime - if you go too far either way it either doesnt set or doesnt release. Dont loose the screw!

I love the set design.

Dayton Traister makes the sleekest little adjustable trigger I know of, HVH in Winnepeg had them. I love the one in my 7x57.

As far as scopes mounts go, I sent Nechako out a pair of factory CZ high mounts. They are just the common ones found at Wholesale or Russels.
They will clear a VXIII with butler creek flip up caps perfectly. They are not the prettiest but tough as nails.

My plan with the same scope set up is to use a skeleton base from a Meopta and mill a set of rings that would look right in their place, but higher and split to accomadate a Kahles 2-7 Variable.
Right now I have a set of lynx rings for CZ550 high. I bore them to 26mm to fit my Kahles. They barely clear the scope but work just fine.

Don't violate the bolt handle......please!!!!!!!!!! If you like that gun, get used to a slightly higher scope set up. Otherwise buy a Brno already bubba'd.

I think NECG had some peep sights that would fit on the square bridge.

I used medium height CZ mounts and a 3-9x33 Leupold compact and with a 4.5-14x40 Leupold.
