Brno 22f Scope Ring Advice

Rings I used were made by a company called Fox I believe it called. They come in a black plastic box and made in Australia. They fit the actual grooves in the gun .

Actually, that bolt is already cut and welded, and the stock notched for the lower bolt. The original bolt hugs the outside of the stock without any notch in the stock. I have two sets of Talley medium QD ringmounts that will work, both 30mm and 1". Shoot me a PM.

This explains why so many of those that come from Sweden have the massive notch in the stock for the wide bolt body that was obviously done by bjubba

If that’s the case it makes you question the heat treat etc on the weld on bolt handle

Yes, I am aware of that. What I meant was that since the bolt handle has already been bent, and/or perhaps cut and welded, the OP might as well have a conventional handle fitted as opposed to sourcing a new bolt. The butterknife handle looks classy, but I don't find them optimal in feel and function as compared to a conventional handle, and even in the bent form, not ideal for scope clearance. Of course, I would never alter an unmodified 21/22, and hope to score a lovely example one day.

I have a custom made rifle in a Mannlicher style stock, that has a butter knife bolt handle, similar to the Brno 21/22. It looks great, but it cuts into the palm of my hands when i work the bolt. It really is not optimal in feel and function. I normally operate the bolt with my palm, but with the butter knife bolt handle, I have to grab the handle with my thumb and fingers, and I don't like it.

Thankfully, the 21/22 are true Mauser 98 pattern rifles. Contact Gunco to see if they can source you a M98 bolt and have them fit it. It will be the best decision you will have made with regard to the shootability of the 21/22. Of course, only on rifles that have already been modified. Not sure if your other custom rifle is Mauser 98 pattern, but certainly, the handle can be modified by a professional.

Butter knife bolts can be quickly operated by thrusting your hand upwards with the web between thumb and forefinger underneath the bolt picking it up. You then pull your hand backwards and push forward, sliding your thumb down the bolt and closing it. Same way long range/prs guys open bar bell bolts, very quick

The butter knife bolt works, of course, but the edge of the knife is pretty sharp, on my custom made rifle, and also on the 21/22. It's also a personal preference, I suppose. I learned to live with it, but a conventional bolt handle feels better, for me.

It is a Mauser 98 pattern action. I already spoke to Jason of Gunco. He is able to cut the handle and weld a conventional one in place. I have been debating to do it though. The rifle is so beautiful the way it is, and it was made by a prominent gun maker. I hate to make any changes to it.

Ultimately, that is a personal decision. On all of my "tool rifles", I do everything I can to make the rifle "fit" me. I leave all my collectible rifles alone. I own several semi-custom rifles modified by the very best in this country (Doucette, Kob, Spencer, Griesbach, Martini, etc.). In some cases, they were "tweaked" several times over as I am never satisfied. Gunco are very competent. Jason fitted a standard M98 bolt to one of my "tool" Brno 21's. The difference was night and day. As per Conor's comments above, I don't deny that the butterknife handles can be used effectively, but it's all a matter of "fit" and "comfort". Too me, they do work in general hunting scenarios and I am "competent enough" with them, but I prefer a standard turned-down handle profile.

I’m in the NCR and after some tribulation got my identical rifle other than the Fullstock scoped. If interested PM me and I would be happy to give you a phone call or if schedules allow show you my set up.

The short answer is nearly each of these rifles are unique and you will need to get a set of rings and a scope that will work with what you have.
