My uncle has a Brno 465 Hornet made in 1958 and it is a great shooter. I realize that finding one like his is going to be difficult and I was wondering if there is any point in doing so. Is the current CZ 527 lux as good or is the Brno 465 worth the extra cost and the search?

My 465 (.22 Hornet) is very accurate and handy although I had to have the barrel set back to correct a headspace problem (which I understand was to be expected with this model as it was based on the 5.6x35R Vierling).

Locating the 527 is going to be easy. My 527 American (in .223) is a very accurate and handy rifle although it doesn't "feel" like the 465 (hard to explain). Also, some people don't care for the box magazine sticking out of the bottom of the 527 and the single-set trigger takes a little getting used to.

Bottom line? Get the 527 and ask your uncle to leave you the 465 in his will.;)

personally i think the zkw is much nicer than the 527 (although i want one in 7.62x39).

zkw 465's turn up in the EE from time to time.

I vote for the ZKW465 as well, mine wears a vintage Meopta 3X scope, Double set triggers and express sights.

I agree with A-zone about the magazine sticking out on the 527 just doesn't do it justice.

A nice used 90%+ ZKW will run you about the same cost as a new 527 just keep an eye open in EE as mig25 quoted, they do turn up now and then.

Brno also made a model called the FOX, it is close to a ZKW but it is nowhere near as nicely finished.
