At one point early in my PAL getting days, I bought a new CZ511, it was beautiful wood, nicely made, didn't function for #### lol, jam o matic. This was before I had any knowledge of making guns work and tweeks n ####, sold it shortly after, and been kicking myself for a while that I didn't keep it now of course. I think it was around $500 to my door some 25 years ago.
Anyway, recently started looking for another one, but the 581 version, like the straight stock better then the humper on the 511's.
Lots showing up recently on GNG and Intersurplus, so I have a pick of a few, several in really good shape and not missing sights n ####.
UK is making new mags for them now too.
Gonna bite the bullet on one of them shortly.
Just neat all steel and wood rifles, built to last.
I'd like to see some pics of 581 and 511 of anyone has any to share.
 
Nice to see the 16 rounder there Lawrence, I'd love to find one some day. Hitzy you'll be pleasantly surprised at how nice they are when looking again with seasoned eyes. The attention to detail and well thought out design are amazing. Little things like the shortness of the action, detachable cassette trigger group, and even a roller on the dam bolt! Mine is tucked away so no photos for now. These rifles make 10/22s, Marlins 60s, and others look like child's play. If there was an easy way to convert them to take 10 round Brno/CZ bolt action magazines they'd be just perfect. GNG had one not long ago with a seriously nice piece of wood on it.

They are excellent rifles and built like a tank, the only plastic on them is he butt plate. They are accurate but are not target rifles but are easily scoped. As for ejection it's basically to the right IIRC however I am open to clarification on this point.

Disassembly is easy and allows for cleaning without affecting the scope (if mounted).

They come up for auction and on the EE regularly but the magazines are expensive to replace and often hard won at auction. RifleMags.co.uk is making excellent replacements but they do them in batches and sell out quickly. Get on their mailing list for these and act promptly when told they are available.

581's are 16mm rails. Tikka dovetail rings like Warne etc are supposed to work.
They don't have the cut out like the 527 16mm rail has, so I don't think they work without some modifications.
 
I've has a 581 for a few years now. It will reliably cycle CCI Quiets. Is accurate and I've had no issues with cycling or ejection. One of my favorites. I did have a 511 for a while but never got around to shooting it. Someone was looking for one and offered me stupid money for it so I let it go. Kinda wish I had kept it now.
 
Cleaning this one up and found a problem lol.
Turns out the mag spring was no big deal, still plenty of tension with a little stretch, but the right front feed lip was broken off, so the mag is not functioning. Good news is the dealer is sending me a replacement mag this week so all is good.
1970 made, cleaned up pretty good. Has fixed rear with 2 additional flip up leafs, have to try it out to see what they range out too. Action is quite smooth, bore is great, should be a fun pinker.
