Brno advice

I used to collect BRNO's. Arguably the zg47 is the best 98 style action ever. If you are looking to "collect" I would go with the carbine barrel models as they are harder to find. Also go with the harder to find calibers. If you are looking to shoot, the rifle versions in 30-06 are the easiest to find.
In the model 21/22 version, the full stock ones are more collectible, as are the carbine length ones.
Peter Przbilla was the guy who wrote up the blue book of values BRNO pages. He is from Australia. I corresponded with him and he sent me numerous files of his research. Interesting stuff. He used one of my BRNO's to verify some of his research.

Thank you. I would probably consider myself a shooter that enjoys collecting interesting and attractive things. I seem to have enough rifles in 30-06, and collectibility aside, my preference has always been rifle over carbine. I’m also noticing that even disregarding stutzen vs half stock, there seems to be several different stockings. Are these likely original?

The front sight hoods are almost always missing. The early zg47 don’t have serialized bolts, gas relief holes are different on them as well. I liked the early matte receivers better. Seen some pretty crappy machining on later polished receivers

Heym and Parker hale both had models that used zg47 actions

Not to start an arguement with m1008, but I can guarantee that at least some early zg47 indeed did have serial numbered bolts. Or shall I say at least the VERY early ones did. The serial number is on the underside of the bolt handle where the flat spot is, about where the bolt handle meets the bolt body.

I’ve owned a few 56 models and maybe a 55 they had oval gas escape holes on the bolts while later ones had round holes. The early ones I had weren’t serial numbers on the bolt handles like the later ones.

Magazines have a letter stamped on them depending on caliber.

Not a zg47 but owned a late zkk factory 300win mag had a 375hh mag (no wonder it feed like 💩

They all went down the road years agoIMG_0648.jpeg

Some retard drilled ph divots in the bridges, gun got scraped. Here’s an early 56 junk receiver when I talk about bad machining I’ve seen the cuts at the back of the mag recess be too deep and there will be an actual bump in the raceway
This one’s fine but again a dummy drilled a divot in the rear bridgeIMG_8478.jpegIMG_8477.jpeg

Op never buy one at auction with a mounted scope

Thanks for the welcomes, info, and links to previous discussions on this site. A reminder that I ought in future to use the search function before bothering people for things that are already here😉. Any thoughts or preferences on ZG stocking - flat, pancake cheekpiece, rollover etc.?

You really should go on italian sporting goods site right away and buy a few of those consignment BRNO's..... they are smoking deals with the scopes that are on them. Plus the 21/22's with the zg47 style bolt handles are harder to find and are the good ones that are easier to put scopes on. By looking at them, they look like aftermarket fiberglass stocks too, but it doesn't say. If I was still collecting, I would have already scooped them......
