anybody shooting one of these? i have ordered one in 12 gauge/5.6x52R.

what is the accuracy like?

anybody shoot slugs out of the 12 gauge? how well are the barrels regulated?

i have some high hopes for it. seems like one gun for coyotes, black birds, skunks, and turkeys.

anybody get any chamber inserts for the 12 gauge? i believe they are available in most rimmed lever gun cartridges (including 45-70) and many handgun cartridges as well.

It depend on what you mean by "BRNO" gun - that would cover two different factories and several different models. I did own a CZ Brno model 3 in 12 ga over 7x57R. It was accurate with the rifle barrel, but the shotgun slugs grouped about 14" higher than the fixed rifle sights at thirty yards, Center of pattern was high with birdshot too. Triggers were good, it even had a single set front trigger. It was very solidly built, and a good value, but kinda heavy and kunky IMHO. i sold it and bought a Merkel.
There are other BRNO guns from the other factory that have the rifle barrel placed over the shotgun, ( don't know the model) I have never shot one of those.

I tried one in 12 Gauge/ought six, it was accurage enough, not sure about the 12 gauge, I cant imagine it would of worked out that great with the scope, going back and forth from the two.

.22 Savage High-Power ?........at least its orginal I will give you that much. Its your Gun have fun with it.

My CZ (can't recall model at the moment) is in 308/12. With the rather rudimentary open sights, it shoots Rottweil slugs to within 1/2" of the same point of impact as 165gr 308s at 100yd. :)

This is not a scientific measurement; when Cat and I tried it out, the 308 bullet consistently hit the lead smear left by the slug. We were killing a big rock down beside the river a couple of summers ago, and we agreed that it was "close enough"!;):D

that is what i want to hear. if it works well i can see it being very versitile for what i need a gun for around the farm (coyotes, skunks, and black birds). should make a nice truck gun too. it is legal for all of BC's game except for bison...but in the nature of fuct up laws, the 22 savage is legal for everything (except bison) but the 12 gauge is only legal for deer, black bear, and the smaller predators.

should be ideal for turkey as well.

I'm not sure where you'll get ammo for the 22 savage HP. Norma maybe?
Otherwise you'll have to reload and stock up on the .228 caliber bullets.

unless i can find some S&B i doubt this gun will see any factory ammo in the rifle barrel while in my hands. there is norma ammo out there for $50/box.

the 22 savage is nothing more than the 25-35 or 30-30 necked down. so brass is easy to find. i am going to start out with regular .224 bullets and see how that works.

Higginson's sells hotnady .228 bullets, and dies also.

As far as these combo guns go, the previous owner of my son's 12 gauge skeet gun had traded it on a Valmet .222/12 gauge for his ranch in B.C.
he told me that is just the thing from coyotes to crows!:)

Old badger's CZ is a joy to shoot with either the 12 gauge barrel or the .308.
They tend to run on the heavy side, but have been very popular in Europe since gunsmiths have been making firearms!

You probably won't have a love-in with .224" bullets in your highpower, try to find the Hornadys or cast bullets, as this cart. has modest velocity.

personally, i wouldn't call the velocities modest, they were around 2800 fps with a 70 grain bullet back in 1912.

it has arrived. kind of ugly but charming in its own way. has engraving of a roebuck on one side of the receiver and a pheasant on the other. the 22 savage barrel is almost like a rib on the shotgun barrel, it tapers very quickly from the breach to being very small at the muzzle. looks like a very stiff arrangement of the barrel. hopefully it shoots well. looks like a pretty strong action as well.

it is a little too brisk outside to do much shooting, but i did a quick and dirty test with the slugs i have on hand. challenger slugs shoot high and to the right. winchester super x looks pretty close elevation wise and shoot further to the right. of course i did not take a good rest and was shooting at a pumpkin at 95 yards. but it looks like the rear sight is adjustable for windage and hopefully on a nicer day i can get it sighted in with the winchester slugs.

got dies, bullets, and brass on order. looks like i will be able to play around in the new year.

I have a Brno ZH 304 in 7x57R/12ga. I do have some RWS 7x57R brass and while it isn't too plentiful, there is some around. There is a solution around the shortage of brass. Fireform 303Br. There's lots of that around and it works fairly well.
At the recent gun show in Duncan B.C., one of the dealers had two model ZH 305's, which is the .22 Savage Hi-Power/12ga. In addition, I believe there is another at a gun shop cloes by. If anyone's looking forone, give me a PM and I'll put you in contact with the guys.

RofA: to answer your question
My Merkel was imported as personal property by a German gentleman, it is quite old, I'm guessing about 1960's vintage. It shoots very well and is perfectly regulated to both the irons and scope. This buck was taken at over 200 steps with the 7x57barrel last year. I might have posted the pic before but I like showing people this gun....
