I just heard through the "grapevine" that BRNO made pistols are available here in B.C. Having owned both rimfire, and centre-fire rifles made by BRNO, I look forward to checking out their handgun line. Has anyone tried these pistols?

Folks, they just came in the door last night. We posted them all on our web site at www.rustywood.ca
They appear to be great value for the money and wood grips in stock for them in various styles.
Still taking pics of them to post on our web site.

Don't get confused to guns marketed as "BRNO" ? There are many gun manufacture's in the Czhec Republic that use the BRNO monacher:) don't judge them or affiliate them with the CZ/BRNO brand we think of here in Canada. They may be great, good or just OK? Would like a nice high resolution pictures of the sights , cylinder etc.
The 4.5" barrelled long cylinder looks real interesting!! Looking for a real good all machined steel revolver like this here! If anyone has handled them please report!

Great to see a real assortment of new guns coming into our great country!!!

Cheers Dale Z:)

I guess I'll be able to answer a lot of the questions some time next week with any luck. Just got off the phone after putting down money for the 4.5" 9mm version.

I've been saying almost since I started in shooting that I'd be all over a moonclip 9mm revolver. I guess it was time to put up or shut up... :D

Slick thing about the 4.5" version with the short cylinder. Thanks to how they measure the barrels and the extension futher back to reach the shorter cylinder the 4.5" barrel only sticks out of the frame as much as a 4" prohib gun would stick. So I get Restricted legality with a Prohib overall size gun.... WOOHOO! ! ! ! :D

His description suggests that fit and finish is on par with Ruger with some nods to S&W in some spots.

Once it's here I'll run some ammo through it and then try everything from fast competition style shooting for Alpha and -0 groups to slow and deliberate bullseye and rested groups.

There will be stainless and nickle plated version coming in eventually. Factory ramping up production now.
Please do not think all models listed on ALFA PROJ web site will be available in Canada, many are discontinued models or not available for export/import.

The 14 models we currently have in stock will be eventually be supplemented with stainless and nickle plated version of the same models in blue.
Folks are delusional if they think we can import one offs at competitive prices. Minimum quantities are required for each and every model order.

We have five different wood grips in stock and available for purchase and will fit any of the current in stock models;

Well after looking at the high res photos, they look real decent, about the same quality of a Ruger GP100 blued gun, but waiting to see what the first guys who buy one have to say?
I will tell you, after handling the new L Frame S&W 9mm at SHOTSHOW, these BRNO marked guns look just as good, but looked to have machined trigger and hammer, something Smith nolonger makes?
I am a week short, as just bought a old K frame Smith & Wesson to send out to get converted to 9mm, to bad i did not see these before i started down this path as I could have bought 2 of these BRNO's!!
The finger groove grips look like a nice extra!
cheers Dale Z!

The gun came home today and I got to put a very quick 12 rounds through it this evening. It was all pretty rushed since I had other things to do.

Watch for a full on review to be posted by me early next week in a new thread. Pictures and EVERYTHING! ! ! ! :D I'd do it sooner but Friday and the weekend is already spoken for to a very full degree.

Short teaser. The frame size is on the smallish side. The gun (the short barrel 9mm) fits in my holster used for the S&W K frame guns. I'll measure it and the S&W's to compare and report but it's most certainly more in the size range of a K frame than even the mid size L frame.

The first 12 rounds didn't group quite as tightly as I can manage with my S&W's. But those all have Wolf spring kits that lighten the trigger. The stock trigger on the AP is pretty heavy. But the actual pull is VERY SMOOTH! It's very like the S&W trigger in that respect where it's easy to build pressure on the trigger and it moves very fluidly in response instead of move, stop, move, stop etc. There also isn't any little telltale clicks or stutters to indicate that the hammer is just about to drop. The Ruger action is bad for this with an easily felt "click" where the cylinder stop bolt snaps off the trigger just a little before the hammer is released.

Fit and finish is better than I would have thought. It's got a semi satin sheen from some manner of media blasting on the frame and barrel. If you've seen blued Ruger Mk III's the surface is the same sheen and texture.

The cylinder has very faint turning marks that look to be from some fine emery abrasive or final cylindrical grinding with a very fine process. It's not polished over so it was obviously as it was intended and not just a poor media blasting. I know this sounds bad but in truth the fine marks are on par with the "brushed" finish of a stainless Ruger or S&W. So they might be there but it's not rough to the finger or even dragging a finger nail over it. I only go on like this because it's a contrast to the evenly smooth and "grain free" semi gloss texture of the rest of the gun.

Details such as edges are lovely. The flats stay flat right to the edge then transition with a nice sharp radius that is smooth to the touch but looks crisp to the eye. Edges are neatly straight and true and transition neatly at meeting points.

Overall the AP gun is very much on par with the nicer mainstream firearms we see today. When I first called to ask about these guns sight unseen I asked "Are we talking S&W, Ruger or Charter Arms?" "Rusty" said it was some Ruger and some S&W. Looking the gun over I'm seeing more S&W from the "classic days" than I'm seeing Ruger. And from the first shots I'd say it's like a heavy pull S&W.

I also picked up the new mainspring mentioned above. I'm going to do a bit of shooting first with the gun stock then switch the spring.

Finally I can now say that 9mm in a somewhat compact revolver feels a LOT like a slightly tuned down .357Mag round. It REALLY SNAPS! :D

And that's all you get for the teaser. Although it was a lot more wordy than I planned when I started.... :D
