BRNO does not make the K1. A new company bought out certain rights and designs from CZ.
The designs the newco (they are called PPK or something..) makes are based on old BRNO designs. BRNO made the 110 series of single shot years ago and it was very well made and well machined.. and accurate. The BRNO Effect was brought back several years ago by CZ using the name of BRNO and that new single shot break action had newer type manufacturing methods...cheaper build and just not as elegant as the old 110 model.
I use both and like them both..they are both subMOA in the 30-06 that each of them are chambered for.
I picked up the short barreled K1 in 7x57R (as I have come to prefer rimmed for certainty in extraction). Out of the box it shot a little more than MOA at 100. The trigger is not a single set trigger like the older models...and I like a single set trigger on designs such as these. It is a good trigger, but not great for a light, short barreled single shot. I also liked the K1 also as it took the same scope bases in a dovetail as the old CZ, BRNO lineage.
I started trying to reload for it, and it was very finicky. I used an old trick from my HR single shot days and tried to isolate the single front screw that holds the forearm and barrel on. After much loading, and trial and error (much to the bemusement of my target shooting buddy that could not figure out why I spent so much energy on the K1) it came back to being a decent rifle.
I do not know what the full barrel length versions would do but the carbine one is good and portable, a good truck gun or a loafing gun. Would I climb a mountain going after trophy goat or rams? No. I would bring my Effect or BRNO 110 to do that IF, I had one in a rimmed round. The 30-06 can slip the extractor, then you are faced with an issue that you dont need up on a mountain.
I liked the K1 enough to order 2 more in 6.5x57R and 9.3x74R but alas, they dont make them anymore, or stories to that effect from the importers.
Fair price is around $700-750.
