I recently purchased a very nice Brno model 1, it's in beautiful shape. My question is regarding the markings on it, all the markings such as the model stampings, caliber markings, etc, are filled in with gold paint, the only markings that don't have gold paint in them are the proof markings. Has anybody seen this on a Brno before, if so, does anybody have any idea if this might be factory? I'm very skeptical that it is factory, but I did find a picture on another sight of an original model one with paint filled markings the same as mine. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. I know, I know, pictures! I'll work on it.

Someone has likely filled in the stamping marks with gold leafing or Sheffield gold paint. It was a fad kinda thing back in the early days.Should be able to remove it with a q tip and some lacquer thinner.

Agreed. My dad did this on some of his guns. He was an artist at it so mostly they look real great. Only on one gun does it look out of place. I mostly like the look but don't blame you for wanting to return it to stock...especially if the results are not so good.

I did a Winchester model 70 this way with he Sheffield paint. Looked really good. I have seen a few where they filled every single stamping mark and it looks a little odd to me.

The Brno looks very good, very professional, I knew that people used to do that, but the only reason I questioned it was because it was so well done and the fact that I saw another model 1 that was beat to h#*l with what appeared to be exactly the same paint. I can see someone doing this to a gun they cared for, but thought it was curious to see it one a rifle that had obviously been abused for the better part of it's life. Thanks for your replies.
