BRNO Model 5 in Original box

with all due respect of course it is as someone is trying to circumvent the rules

"Making offer or solicitation to purchase/trade/buy in any forums other than the Equipment Exchange forums are not allowed."

How do you interpret this as "You cannot offer to buy anyone's guns in any way, shape, or form, if they happen to be CGN members."? It says very plainly that you're not supposed to do so in any of the forums. Me and Fred standing in line at the 7-11 while we wait to pay for our top-shelf pizza slices can't say "Hey, you wanna sell that Cooey?" because we belong to CGN? You know that's silly, right? Surely the rule is to keep buying and selling confined to the EE section of the forum to avoid polluting other sections of the forum, and not to force everybody that belongs to CGN to conduct gun buying/selling business on CGN's EE and nowhere else.

Agreed well said

READ THE FORUM RULES.

The following rules will be strictly enforced. Violation may lead to temporary or permanent suspension from the site.

Making offer or solicitation to purchase/trade/buy in any forums other than the Equipment Exchange forums are not allowed. Business members are excluded where the exclusions are specified in the relevant terms of use applicable to the business members;

A private message is not an open, public forum. Study some definitions, no violation of the rules occurred and Gilbert is owed an apology. Have a good night.

You are welcome to test your interpretation of the rules.

The open, public forum in which to post offers to Buy/Sell/Trade is the EE. There are no rules against solicitation of an unlisted item in private though there is a caution to beware of fraud in the instance such offers. This case is cut and dry with clear wording.

And I just bought that beautiful rifle from Obenrndorf. Thank you sir for making me a very happy man :)

Gilbert

You must have made him an offer he couldn't refuse . I was looking at it and saying what a beautiful piece of workmanship. not like most of the crap nowadays. lucky guy.

Exactly. Why CZ/BRNO quit making 452s (or any of the Model 1,2,3,4,5 variants) is beyond me.

I'm thinking quality and I care has gone out the window. Communism ended in 1989 in Czech . and most if not all stuff was hand made . now everything is CNC machined . most stuff . no I'm not some kind of expert nor a know it all but that's what I'm thinking. if you look at the way that rifle was built it would be not only a joy to look at but to own and shoot . now as this Gentleman said why did they stop making the 452 ? because I don't think the workmanship that is going into the 457 is as nice as the 452. I like the old school stuff much more. I don't care about the machining marks unless they will cut you . think about it . take a Russian sks or a WW2 German Mauser or a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser or a Garand apart and look at the workmanship . well made. a buddy showed me a Ruger ranch rifle and sure it works and maybe it's accurate but that plastic stock made me go W$F is this crap . oh he said you can fill it with spray foam ????? LMAO.

I just paid $800 plus dollars and I have to put spray foam in the stock ?? give me walnut or at least laminated wood please . some plastic stuff isn't bad but I wanted to scream when I held that rifle . I hope the man who bought the 22 in this post has many happy years shooting it.

I would imagine it just started costing too much money to continue making rifles the way they had been. It seemed to still be a pretty old school shop up until maybe the end of the 453s. So by that point in time it probably just started costing too much money to have that much work actually done by people. I don't really have an opinion on 455/457 quality, as I haven't really taken a hard look at any of them. But if they're not quite as good as their previous offerings have been then surely it's just a matter of money and it simply cost too much to continue doing business that way. Modernize some of the production to keep costs down so you can continue to play in the same ballpark. Maybe they would've started approaching Anschutz money to continue making them that way. And I think we can all agree they're not Anschutz quality, so if they cost too much nobody's gonna continue buying them. They were nice rifles for the money, but they weren't great rifles in general. Take the "good deal" out of the equation and you'd probably start looking at alternatives.

I am also an old version fan boy. All my CZ's are 452's and 453's. The new 457 just does not do it for me. I bought one some time ago and when I realized that the cocking indicator of the bolt was plastic, I sold it. I know this might be pretty extreme for some but for me it is important.

Very nice Brno!!! Thank for sharing! My dad just gave my 10 y/o daughter his old #5, another lifetime of use it will get.

I think I won’t post any more of my rifles on cgn after seeing this thread though unless for sale in the e&e. Looks like quite a headache it can turn into.

Congrats on the fine rifle Gilbert.

I'm thinking quality and I care has gone out the window.

Some old posts can be found both here and on RFC, where it is speculated that CZ is tending to run their chamber reamers far past their useful service life, resulting in large burrs hanging off the rifling. It appears they still make a decent barrel, but tend to ruin it chambering with dull tools. That's some real penny wise, pound foolish stuff, as the cost of replacing reamers hardly would eat into profits, or could easily be passed on to the consumer for a couple extra bucks a rifle. I only have experience with the 455's, and have a 457 project rifle I still need to get to work on. I don't see anything fundamentally different about the old actions that would have made them shoot better, and the new actions can certainly shoot very well when fitted with a quality barrel, so the theory of cheaping out on the tooling these days makes sense. A number of threads (more so on RFC) can be found about CZ crowns looking like they were cut with a butter knife. Makes one shake their head a little, what's the point of making a good barrel blank just to hack the critical chambering and crowning steps? Ah well, at least replacing the barrel is extremely easy.

Jefferson and other friends: As for me, I assure you I was not aware that I was not allowed to contact another member by PM to make an offer if the rifle was not put on the EE. Again, I am very sorry and believe me, I feel really bad. I have the utmost respect for my fellow CGN ers and it wont happen again.
Thank you
Gilbert

Hey Gilbert , you're just Quick on the Draw.

Some sour grapes from others who didn't have the Moxie.

...skwerl
