Hi All, I'm new to this awesome forum. I just picked up a Brno Model 5 for my kids 16th birthday. This is his first "real" firearm. I haven't shot anything in probably over 25 years myself. I have very little info on this gun but my objective was to get him a bolt action repeater with iron sites. Very few new guns have the setup I was looking for so I was happy to find this classic. My question is can anyone tell me the difference between the Brno models 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5? I would also like to locate an extra clip for this gun if you happen to know of a good source. I live out in the wild west on Vancouver Island. Thanks!!!

Some people don't like Ruger, and some don't like Savage, and so on... but i've never heard a single person that dislikes Brno!

I hope your son is a good kid, because he's lucky to have a dad like you!

Teach him how to take care of that gun, so his son can have it one day.

Any CZ or BRNO magazine will fit that rifle.

The 2, 4, and 5 all have the same trigger assemblies, 1 and 3 are again different from the first three and from themselves. biggest differences are barrel lengths, muzzle diameters and stock designs.

Thanks yodave & Jahred, F, I'm slowly learning. He gets the gun on Monday, well not officially until he is 18 but it will be nice to be able to tell him a little more about it thanks to you guys!

BRNO, I believe the 1,2,and 5 models are a sporter style and the models 3 and 4 are heavy barrel rifles.
All clips are interchangeable
The model 5 is the Holy Grail of BRNO rimfire rifles, one just sold in the USA for $1200 a plain jane #5.

I don't understand the need to have folks learn how to shoot with open sights, unless we are talking about competitive shooting. Youngsters shooting with a scope IMHO are much easier to keep enthused with shooting. The world is full of a NOW for gratifacation generation and if shooting with open sights becomes no fun.......................FS

Greg I don't know about most Kids wanting scopes, but my 12 year old nephew(shooting buddy) prefers open sights for most informal and hunting situations!
He even has the foresights to ask me to find him a lower powered scope for his deer rifle so he can see more area around the deer, one smart kid! But he sure he will use the irons instead anyway!
Now about BRNO #5's the last known serial# is mine in 1978, for the records we are keeping of all known model of BRNO rimfires, so if anyone has a 1978 or later gun, please PM me with date code and serial #, thanks!
I sure wish I was your son, a BRNO on your 16th birthday, all I got was an alarm clock, but it is still with me 23 years later, I guess Dad was practical/LOL, cheers Dale Z!

Good choice in a 22. If you need more info check out Rimfire Central go to the CZ forum. For mags send Rustysdream a pm, he was selling mags on the EE this winter, haven`t seen a new add lately. I saw a #4 for sale at a gunshow on sunday price was $800.00.

You can buy up precious metals and assume the risk or you can invest in BRNO rimfire rifles and watch your investment grow, those of us who own them know why and those that have never shot one will never understand.

Try prophet river at the top of the page, I preferr the single shot adapter for plinking and shooting at the range. I can shoot faster feeding one at a time then I can loading a mag.

I see your point about the scope but my theory was to introduce him to the open sight first and then if he wanted to upgrade to scope it would be like having a new toy to play with. The gun actually came with a lower end scope but the guy was willing to sell it to me without...for less $ of course. I don’t have the serial # with me but this one has the 1968 manufacture date, FYI. I’m starting to think I got a great deal on this little plinker.

** Model 1: .22 LR, 22.75 in barrel, 3-leaf (tri-leaf) sight, 5 shot lip mag., checkered pistol, 6lbs, mfg. 1946-1957. (many have 2 way
adjustable triggers, but not all. Safety is similar but slightly different to modern ZKM-452's)

** Model 2: similar to model 1, with checkered deluxe walnut stock.

** Model 3: .22 LR, target rifle model with 27.5" heavy barrel, adj click target sights, 5 shot clip mag, plain target style stock with
large swivel mounts, 9.5 lbs. Mfg. 1949-1956 (adjustable triggers) (I have never seen one of these yet)

** Model 4: similar to Model 3, except has improved trigger design & safety. Mfg. 1957-1973

** Model 5: similar to Model 1, except has the improved trigger design & safety. Mfg. 1957-1973.

Brno Model #5 was designed in 1958 as military training rifle for Egypt, Syria and Jordan and manufactured til 1962. Model 5 utilized factory surplus parts from Model #1 (stocks, barrels front and rear sights) and redesigned action and trigger mechanism from two stage mauser trigger to one similar to today's CZ ZKM 452

Well if you paid less than $500 you got a good buy, if you paid less than $400 you stole it. FS

There were Model 4's built in 1956 (ask Blacktail Slayer)
