Thanks Joe...That's another one I owe ya...Just talked with Steve Holborn...Gunmaker from Warren Ontario...he apprenticed under Elwood Epps in 70s and said Elwood had an Engraving machine that did similar Calibre engraving on barrels.
 
Sure looks a whole lot like an Ackley to me, even looks like the chamber was done to Ackley specs, which becomes obvious because the AI version ends up slightly shorter than the parent case. Good find there Doc.

I would really like to know who did the stock work as I have one strangely similar and it would be nice to have the name of the carver.
 
Well Kevan, I think the cheek piece and around the wrist, is more than "strangely similar."
The cheek piece also has that nice forward slope on the top and a bit on the side, which greatly eases the effect of recoil. When I was shooting yours, fireforming the brass to 8mm, I thought it had very low felt recoil for the cartridge size.
 
Lumby gun show gartzs me two boxes bullets.
Stopped by Del's on the way home and found a set of dies and a bag'o brass...........new.
EMT sent and need to find a load for these 100 grain bullets...........??

Been a great day and good to be home.

Can the rain pour in Salmon Arm and south.

Felt recoil is amazingly mild even with the heaviest loads, more surprising is the superb accuracy.
Its very nice and stable to shoot offhand so its going Moose hunting if I get drawn.
The fact that its a tad heavy also reduces recoil.

Sorry for the side-track Deerdr.... if you should ever find the name of the stock maker please send me a PM...
 
I just sent pics to a fellow nutter...we'll see what happens, and should I really shoot a 257 Roberts in the Improved? Wife and I both threw up our hands over photo bucket, and dial- up.

Maybe in the future you could try uploading at Timmies or McRaunchies, they have Wifi. Have a coffee with the boys while uploading.:cheers:
 
I've started researching WHERE the Original Owner of the 257 Improved Lived...Apparently he was in Oil Business, and went from Kentucky to Texas, to Alberta, to Ontario...I'm still working on it. And KAMLOOPY did buy the rifle, so you boys in the west may get to see it yet. Respectfully, and thanks for all the support...Deer Dr

I have a 257 AI on an '03 Springfield which has, I believe a Fajen stock and I will share some load info with my buddy 'Looky to get him started...
