well this was a first for me!

i was out at the range today getting ready to test out my new CAA MCK Chassis for my G17C.
i got all loaded up and got ready to fire and *CLICK*....... nothing
tap rack
*CLICK*...... nothing
rinse repeat.

pick up the bullets and look at them, no primer strike.
take my pistol out of the chassis and take it down, notice the end of the firing pin looked strange.
load up and came home.
just went online and looked up the firing pin, yup, she broke!

anyone ever break one?
this is off my Gen3 G17C.
i can honestly say ive never broken a firing pin before.
can honestly say im not impressed either.

now i gotta spend $80 and wait a week to get a new one, by then ill be back at work, so 2 weeks before i can get out and try the new Chassis on my glock.

I've seen a few of them out of a few hundred work Glocks, usually get a chip out of the tip of the firing pin first, then the rest of the tip breaks off. Saw more of this type of thing when using the Winchester Lead-free primmer ammo a few years back. All firing pin tips will fail eventually when constantly hitting hard primers. That Sumbro ammo being sold a few years ago had extremely hard primers for submachine gun use, I personally would never feed that crap through any of my firearms.
Sometimes it is just a faulty or worn part, but most of the time it is the ammo...

PS. make sure you order the correct firing pin for your Gen3, the Gen5 type you have in the picture will not work for you.

GLOCK OEM factory Firing Pin fits 9MM & .380 models.
WILL NOT WORK FOR GLOCK MODELS 42, 43 and GEN5's.
Item Nr.: 135-SP00049

ohhh its $10 cheaper there!
oh wait, then shipping....

ya i just used that pic to see what the end of the firing pin should look like, found a couple of the 9mm/380 ones at Black Box in Calgary, gonna see if a co-worker can pick one up for me before he heads up North.

I broke (chipped really) the tip off of a gen 2 model 19 about 20k rounds in. It started piercing primers. The replacement has been going for another 38k rounds or so. I've lost count now. Still using the same cups.

You're asking your co-worker to violate US export law (ITAR). Penalties if caught can include prison, fines and/or being permanently barred from entering the US.

That broken fp looks pretty dry, If it was lubed or greased it would have still be ok.

From the manual:

▲ WARNING

Do not put cleaner-lubricant-preservative or gun oil inside the firing pin channel. Make sure that the magazine (inside and out) and breech face are wiped dry before reassembling your GLOCK pistol. Leaving lubricant in these areas could cause contamination of primers and failure to fire.

That manual is going to tell you that you only have to use factory ammunition, if you fire reloaded ammo you are going to damage your glock. Let me know how non lubed fp's fair against reloads in glocks across Canada. Try not to correct yourself this time.
