Was at the range today with some friends and one of them had a case stick in his chamber of his SKS. The extractor tore about 1/4" of the case off, leaving the rest stuck in the chamber. Ammo was the Czech surplus headstamped bnx 82.

We tried using a .50cal brush (Muzzleloader) to remove it, no luck.I told my friend to get a broken case extractor, so I guess he'll have to wait a week or 2 to get it out.

Anyone have this happen in an SKS ?

I've heard of this happening with the "04" serial prefix parts guns Lever previously sold. A strange, non milspec cobble up using a threaded bbl salvaged receiver, a pinned type bbl, and a collar adapting the two to each other with a single, offset pin. A poor pinning job allowed some bbls to back out causing case seperations.

The other reason is a rough or corroded chamber (SKS chambers are not chromed) in a milspec carbine causing the case to stick. As the SKS extractor is quite strong and the action abrupt, a case will separate under this circumstance. I had one once that would do this but remedied it by having the chamber polished.

The SKS in question _is_ a 040 from Lever, but it has a new pin installed by Lever. I checked the barrel to see if I could move it (Wacked it into a wood shooting bench) and it did not move.

Other fired cases were checked and nothing seems out of the ordinary with them.

When he gets the case out I'll check his chamber to see if there's any problems. Thanks Eos.
