I shoot a STI 2011 pistol in 9mm. Tonight while cleaning it i realized my ejector was broken off and flush. From what i am reading the pin removal can be a nightmare and i have never changed one. Next problem is i have to be in kingston in a week and a half for the nationals. Is this really that hard to change? Or should i get the part and hope someone can help me at the nationals to install it? As you can tell i'm a little stressed about it and hope some fellow IPSC shooters can help me out with advice/info.

Thanks,
John.

What pin? Does the gun have external extractor?

John, call Sean at Freedom Ventures for all STI help. He should have the part and to walk you thru the replacement process; and he may actually show up in Kingston as well for you to thank him in person :)

Edit: I mixed up extractor for ejector .. never mind :D

Is it causing problems? I have a 1911 that runs 100% with the nose broken off the ejector as you describe. I bought a replacement but never installed it.

Mine stovepipes non stop with minor, but does seem to spit out and run the major ammo. Wouldn't running your gun with a broken ejector put added stress on the extractor?

Not really. It will change the ejection timing and angle so you could potentially end up trapping empty brass in the breach as the slide strokes forward into battery. Additionally, with a broken/short ejector the empty case may not be pushed clear of the extractor before the next round pops up for feed presentation. This can mess up feeding. Ideally you want the empty ejected well clear of the breach before the breach face clears the rim of the next round in the recoil cycle.

You travel thousands of kilometers to a match, and you don't have a backup gun? That is just plain silly. Currently I'm on Vancouver Island for a match and both my wife and I have backup guns. Spending the money to travel thousands of km for a match to have it ruined by a gun breaking down means that you haven't thought out the possiblities. As I was told when I shot IPSC in Saskatchewan, "You wanna play, be prepared to pay for it".

Well being that i am a new IPSC shooter, started last year and right now most of my extra income is going to travel and ammo it hasn't left me with the ability to just buy another $3500 open gun, but i'm working on it. I haven't thought out the possibilities because i don't have the experience.

Thanks to you guys that commented, and thanks to Gunnar and Josko. The ejector issue will be fixed before or at the nats. Really appreciate the help.
