Hi CGN'ers,

I was at the range today shooting my Glock 40 10mm. After a few rounds I realized the firearms was not ejecting and to my surprise I found that the extractor was missing from the gun! I found it on the ground next to the brass that actually ejected.

This gun is only about 3 months old and I purchased it through a retailer in Ontario. Would this be something that I take up with the retailer? Or should I contact Glock directly?

Furthermore, I would not mind just buying a new extractor on my dime if it will make the process faster. I cannot seem to find the actual part number for the Glock 40's extractor...Is it the same as the Glock 20?

Any help would be appreciated as this is my first Glock and I am trying to learn the ropes on where to get things ;)

Roger that.

I will give them a call tomorrow. Is this a common occurrence for the 10mm Glock's? The model 40 has run flawlessly for me up until now, and it is very accurate. I find it unusual that the extractor would fail at such a low round count...Considering Glock's reputation. Fellow range friends who have owned 10mm Glock's for years advised me that this is a rarity.

I had somewhere around 15,000 rounds through a Glock 20 before I replaced a part. Had a frame pin shed a side. The gun still ran fine. That was my first 20 too, it saw a lot of loads that were balls to the wall hot. Much hotter than I load these days.

im kinda freaked out by how little is actually holding the extractor of the glock in place, just a little spring and pressure from the plunger under it.
every time i take mine out and put it back in i feel that it is barely being held in place.
kinda freaks me out to hear that yours just fell out!

I wanted to get into the 10mm game and after working out the pricing and asking others, I think the Model 40 is a good buy. Glock has proven to me that they really stand behind their product and parts are readily available. If anything happens with yours, be rest assured that it will be taken care of providing the pistol has not been abused in a careless manner.

I have never been a Glock fan boy, and in this case it is my first polymer pistol. I have only owned steel pistols and revolvers and I must say that the Glock's simplicity really caught my attention. The fact I was able send an email and get a response within the hour on how to ship me a replacement part really made my day.

Thanks for the response!

A lot of extractors are held simply by spring pressure and ramped pivoting points like the Glock is. Remington 870 comes to mind.

Also, OP said it broke, it didn't simply fall off.
