Welding should work- won`t be made of cast iron if it was a working musket, however, some old types of iron does not like to be welded
If it is really skinny, build it up some and file back down to a reasonable size.
Make sure you retain the proper geometry, and anneal it when you are done welding. Some mig wire seems to be high carbon and can break if quenched

Absolutely forget brazing. Looks awful. Better to leave the piece broken.
I have successfully gas welded cocks and hammers. I suspect that a good TIG welder could do the best job.
The parts have to be jigged firmly in place. You want 100% penetration. After cleanup, the piece will have to be refinished to match the rest of the lock. That could include artificial aging.
A gunsmith who can do an expert job of welding bolt handles should be able to repair a #### - but it is best to deal with someone who is experienced in working on antiques.

I have done a fair number of them over the years. Use gas welding with steel rod after pinning the parts with a piece of drill shank the same diameter as the hole drilled. Takes a little time but careful finishing with 400 paper makes the repair un-noticeable unlike if it were brazed.

Good choice. After sanding I finish mine with paste bluing - 2 coats gets it to blue /brownish patina color and blends nicely with normal color fade on rest of the piece.
