Broken press....what to do now?

ok....so I broke my lee press...I thought these things were indestructable? :D Anyways all I can find is a depot in the US where I can get my warrantee replacement, is there a place in Canada that will do this? They said 6-8 weeks before I get my replacement which really sucks! Anyone had to go thru this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thats what broke on mine :mad: I ordered the part from higginson, apparantly there is an "upgraded" part for the press so they must be aware of the problem.

You don't have to spend a fortune for good equip......How about this deal:
RCBS rockchucker, uniflow powder mea.,RCBS scale, hand primer, Speer reloading man.,lube, loading blocks,etc.....$211 U.S.
 
I really like the RCBS... bought an Ammomaster and broke the base on it twice.....(dont ask)... Called RCBS and they sent out a new one and didn't even want the broken one. Now thats service. Dillon is also #1 in my books. No problem with service and didn't have a border hassel as I put on it warrantee repair.

Lee warranty.

I have a Classic Cast press and am impressed with. I rarely use the primimg arm that came with it and it broke after very little use. I sent a photo of the broken pieces and I had a new one from Lee in under a week.
 
Lee is aware of the problem and will replace the cast connector link with a steel one. No charge other than shipping. Higginsons will look after it as well. Its all on their site if u do a little digging.

Buy this. buy that! Hell at the end of the day buy a Dillon 550 and be done with it. If my press were to break I would have a new one up here as fast as Post Office or Fed Ex could deliver it. Over 90% of the IPSC boys in the US use Dillon so why take the chance on anything else.

Lee toggle links

I have two Lee presses,a Challenger and a Classic.

Challenger toggle links are made of pot metal,they are reversible so you won't get stuck.You can buy-ask for them from Lee,they are good about sending them. But that gets old ,soon. So I upgraded it with the handle and toggle links off the 1000.

When the Classic came out ,I had to have one.They were just over half the price of Rockchucker ! When my buddy,a very long time user of a Rockchucker looked it over,said "mmmm, this is a better press."In fact when he helped to set up a new reloader,the Lee Classic was the press he suggested. The new reloader said I only want to buy things,once. As the last one designed ,the Lee has more features.As for accuracy,when the toggle links on the Challenger had broken again, I asked about the other brands.One fellow looking for the truest made one ended up with a Lymans,but he said it was more a luck of the draw than paint colur, they were all made to +/-.005.The Classic wasn't out then.
 
crappy cast aluminum toggle links. I broke mine a while back, sent it in to Lee and they replaced them with another set of aluminum links. I guess now they have a metal linkage, so next time they break I'll go for the metal parts.

Might be a while though as the lee si now the backup to my RCBS press.

Keeping the bolt that holds the pices together good and tight is the best way to extend it's life. I replaced the stock bolt with a longer bolt and a lock nut.

Bob .. ya got a pic of that part?im sure i can make up something at work ...or even better...if you have a sample piece..
 
It's not even cast aluminum,it's a aluminum zinc alloy,aka: pot metal.They sure don't like the Factory Crimp die.If you are too cheap to buy HD press like a Rockchucker or a Classic,just buy the links and handle off the 1000.But don't complain about Lee, when you only spent less than a 1/4 the price of a Rockchucker.
 
Between myself and my friend (Mhughes) we have 7 presses.

3 lee pro 1000's
1 Lee classic turrent
1 Lee hand press.
1 Lyman single stage (Our bullet puller)
1 Dillon 550B

The third Lee Pro was bought for 65$ and took 40$ to get up and running with spare parts for it and the others.

If you have any Lee press that has the Roll pins for the ram replace them the the bolts.
