Anybody know about the brooks Pheasant classic?
I think that's what it is called, anyway.
Something about a live pheasant competition with a buy in of something like $1,800 ?

I know a few who do it every year. I think it is by invitation or reservation and that price is about right. I have tried to call a person who is involved. If I get a contact number I will post.

I went to it 3 or 4 years ago. It was a team shoot and I was invited by a business associate whose company sponsored the team. I think it was 8 or 10 guys to a team. There were teams from all over, including the U.S.. Each team drew an area and a large bunch of pheasant were released in each area. We drew an area that was just a bare field and the pheasant didn't stop flying when released until they had left our area. It turned into the guys standing in a line downwind taking birds as they were flying by. The dogs beat the shooters to few birds that did land and retrieved the live birds since most wouldn't fly. No one got a shot off at one bird that flew across the river and a dog took off across the skimpy ice and retrieved it. It must have been 500 yards! All and all not my idea of hunting, though I appreciated the invite. I shot one bird early and left the rest for the team. In fairness to the organizers the guys in the next area over had tall grass and brush and had an excellent hunt with their well trained dogs, and others I talked to at the dinner afterwards did too. We just had bad luck in the draw. The format might have been changed since then.

The format now is 40 roosters and 10 hens released first. Only roosters count. Draw for location. Limited entries allowed. Certain teams which place in previos year are invited back and get dibs and the remaining entry is in the order of entry recieved. Luck is certainly involved as any team could draw ####ty cover. The winners are those with good shooters, good dogs, good strategy and for sure luck is the wild card. I have never tried it but I know quite a few that have and most want to go back year after year and some make neough money to nearly pay for next year's entry.
