So it was my brothers 29th B-day last weekend and instead of spending time with the family we went out and helped his neighbor out doing some heavy lifting and moving of gear. For the rest of this week he has complained that nobody did anything for his B-day, unbeknownst to him, is that his Fiance has spent the week planning what I believe his first surprise b-day party!
Now, his/my best friend and our father and I got together and picked up a decent SKS Laminate, I wiped down the outside of cosmoline so he could at least handle it when it is given to him tomorrow.
However while giving it the wipe down I noticed the barrel was seriously bent to the right, and it must have been like this from the arsenal as the front sight was pushed to the far right to compensate for this. I called up the dealer where I got it from and asked if a swap could be done, they asked for me to bring it in and have it checked. Brought it back there this after noon, Jeff looked it over, concluded the same diagnoses as I did, and handed me another sks from the shelf and said "have fun!". I gave this one a better look over and was happy with what I found.
I took it home, and de-cosmo'd the outside again. That's when it hit me, if I was just given a new toy I wouldn't want to have to sit for an hour or 2 and clean it before I could use it. So I spent the next 2 hours drinking beer, watching TV and detailing this rifle. Then I went to the locker and picked out 60 of the finest 1958 Surplus Russian rounds I could find, and a few stripper clips to throw in with the rifle. That is true Brotherly love.
We can only hope he enjoys it, also, it will be his first centerfire rifle!
I'll update this thread with a pic of the new rifle once its in the new owners hands!
OH, and he isn't a member here nor does he know any members here other then me and the friend!
