I noticed on my Browning 1886 that I can thumb shells into the magazine one at a time without an issues. The new Winchester that I have has to have the previous shell sticking out of the magazine part way, holding the loading gate open, if you want to put any more cartridges into the magazine. Once the trap door snaps shut, it seems to lock and the only way to access it again is to completely unload the rifle and start over. Does anybody have any opinions about this? Is there something that I can do to fix this? I would really like to be able to top off this rifle if I happen to fire off 3 or 4 shots when I'm out hunting without having to completely unload it first.
