Hey guys, I recently inherited a '73 Browning A5 in 16ga (non-Sweet 16). Hasn't been fired since the 70s, but sat in a humidity controlled vault. I am going to rebuild and restore it, but will likely need a few parts. The regular searches are turning up big goose eggs.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Define proper storing....

Other guns it came with weren't cleaned, have leaked grease all over, and even the A5 has some rusting going on on the receiver. I haven't had the time to take it all apart yet, but I do like knowing where to get parts in case something is pooched. You are probably right, and she is probably fine. Just like having a Plan B.

Clean it, oil it, make sure the rings are set right and will probably work just fine.

Don't even think about taking the receiver apart for cleaning. Remove the fore end and the barrel, and generously soak the innards with a good solvent to help loosen old oil and grease and carbon. Keep the butt slightly raised so solvent doesn't get to the wood. The next day, use brake cleaner outside to hose out the receiver in every nook and cranny. Avoid spraying the wood finish, and keep the butt raised so it all flushes out the opening for the barrel.

Lube the action lightly, lube the magazine tube lightly, set the rings and fire away.

I bought some parts for my 1953 A5 from Art couple years ago. I laughed when he called the A5 the Kalashnikov of shotguns.
