I'm not concerned with value here, but I am confused.
Here is an FM made, John Browning 5, with no bluing. Serial number indicates early 1954 manufacture. There is some pitting on the receiver, visible in the picture, but no rust anywhere else. I thought all auto 5s were blue, but how could anyone get the blue all off, like this one is?
There is no sign of taking the bluing off by mechanical means, except the receiver seems to have been polished, likely in an attempt to remove the pitting.
Any suggestions?
Also, was the solid rib usual?
 
They did make them, but I have never seen one until now.

That steel spacer between the brass friction ring and spring on the mag tube needs
to have the flat face towards the spring in both the outer and inner positions.

Good to hear from an auto 5 man.
So they did make them. However, I can't get the url to work, even when I fix the start of it.
And how about the solid rib? Do you have anything on it?
I was going to print this picture, to show that removing the bluing in such places as this under the barrel, tight right angle, just didn't make sense.
