Got to see and handle an old 1773 Brown Bess yesterday at an antique shop in upstate New York.
What a piece of history and if this thing could talk Id love to hear her stories. The shop owner bought it in Texas or from a Texan
The story behind this one according to the shop owner was that it was found in a Texas pond next to an 1800s military rifle.
The guess behind how they both got there was that slaves had come into possession of the guns and at some point feared being caught with them, so both were tossed nto the pond.
The wood was in good shape..the action still works but the barrel was pitted.
If anyones interested I can post the shops contact info. The price was just under $700.
