Does anyone know if there is any trick to getting this flash suppressor from brownells? I tried to get one in my last order but it was denied. I know parts for all current firearms used by the US military cannot be exported but is this not generic for use on the m1a also? Its not a milsurp flash hider as near as I can tell. If it cant be exported period are there any Canadian options for flash hiders in the original style? Id like to keep the bayo lug just to keep it original but if I cant has anyone had any luck ordering the NM flashhider sans the bayo lug?

They prohibited the export of flash-hiders a few years ago. It's why so many tactical rifles arrive wearing muzzle-brakes. In the US, an XCR is sold with a FH.
Before placing an order at Brownells I call their international department to confirm the exportability of every item. Sometimes the manufacturer is not registered to export so I change the item for another brand right away.
Maybe you could try SAI webstore, TreelineM14 and WolverineSupplies?

i've ordered the national match flash suppressor directly from SAI without problems.

SPCAMNO on this site sells a generic flash suppressor as well

Brownell's has nothing to do with it. They're just complying with U.S. Federal law. The export restriction has nothing to do with the U.S. military or the weapons they use(d) either. It's the result of how frightened the U.S. government got after 9/11. There are lots of firearms on the list that never saw service Stateside. Anyway, no part with 'M-14' in its name can be exported without the daft permit. 'M1A' is an SA Inc. trade mark and parts labelled thusly(on the shipping box) can be exported with no fuss. There's no such thing as a tactical rifle. It's a marketing term only.
Bayonet lugs are one of the idiot Stateside anti-firearm lobby's definition of what a so-called assault rifle has. Some States(CA for one) decided that if a rifle has a bayonet lug, a 20 round mag and a pistol grip, it's inherently evil and voters in that State can't be trusted to own one.

Don't forget the "shoulder thing that goes up".

Hello Everyone!!

So im looking at building a shorter barreled M1A Rifle (!8.5'=non restricted). Ive done some looking around and a lot of the custom builders are located south of the border. Could anyone recommend where to start, builders, parts, action and barrel, or any posts that are geared toward custom m1a builds!

Cheers
Nick

Are we able to get smaller parts from Brownells? IE gas cylinder shim kit, spring guide, etc. Everywhere seems to be sold out here, and I'd really like to get all the necessities in one crack.

I was able to get front sights and a Springfield armoury rear sight aperture no problem. It was just the flash hider I had no luck with. I've since since given up on the flash hider as the new SA front sight seems to have fixed what I thought was improper barrel index. Also I'm loving this new Boyds stock I threw on.
