Hey all,
I just put in an order through brownells for some internals for my SR-22 (hammer, charging handle, extractor, etc) totaling $158. I just got an email from them saying I need to have an export licence and do a ton of paperwork to have my order processed. Anyone else have the same issue ordering from brownells?? I thought thats where most people ordered generic 10/22 parts.
I'm definitely not going through all the BS if thats the case, Ill just cancel and find a canadian supplier.

So I should have just split the orders in half? I would have to have them shipped separately then correct?

I made a how-to guide on the legalese to allow you to export as much as you want, provided that the manufacturers are approved for export thru Brownells. It's a sticky.

I just ordered a trigger from them, got export paperwork no problem. Its a bit of work, but not a big deal. Make up a purchase order (1 page document), make up a end-user agreement (1 page document) and get an IIC (free, online application that gets emailed to you). Mail original documents to Brownells, and thats it. State department approval received, no problems.

There was a $10 paperwork fee tho, shipping was reasonable.

Humm, I just ran a mock order through to check my memory of the previous shipping charges and , as before, it comes up "TBD" when I go to place the actual order. The last time, when I did actually place the order, the email with the shipping charges confirmation was for about $33USD on an order of $90+USD.
"TBD", to be decided...

Make sure you choose Priority post as your shipping method, its the cheapest. And yes the TBD is normal.

So I've cancelled my order through brownells and am going to split it into 2 separate orders.
As long as each order is less than $100 I won't have to bother with the export licence/paperwork correct?
Like I said I'm just ordering generic 10/22 internals (hammer, extractor, cocking handle, etc)

This only applies to orders over the $100 threshold.

Not true. Here's part of what they sent me when I tried to order bullets.

An export license is required by our Dept of State if the value of the gun parts, pistol or rifle, listed on a purchase order is $100.00 USD or more, either collectively or individually. Regulated items regardless of their value are required to ship under an export license. Regulated items include: barrels, barrel liners, actions, receivers, frames, cylinders, bullets and brass.

Also, if the product company is not registered for export(something like that), then the order will be cancelled regardless of price.

Here's what to do:

1. Call Brownells with your order and ask if the item(s) can be shipped to Canada. The answer is usually yes. If no, try to find the stuff in Canada and good luck.
2. If the items fall under U.S. export restrictions (most do) you will receive an email from Brownells with attached U.S. forms that must be completed and instructions. The only form not included is the Canadian import permit - you have to request this from the Canadian government and it will arrive by email shortly after you ask for it. (See the tutorial under Legalese for addresses, procedures, etc.)
3. Send the completed U.S. forms and the import permit to Brownells.
4. About three weeks later you will receive your order.

This all sounds more complicated than it actually is. The forms are simple and only require a little information. If you later do a second order it's even easier because you've already got completed forms on your computer and all you have to do is amend to reflect the new items.

The red tape is a nuisance but it's worth it to get access to Brownells huge stock of firearms parts and supplies.

It's always $5.75 for USPS INTC shipping because that's the flat rate cost from USPS to ship a certain package size to Canada. That's why everyone is charged the same shipping cost.
