does brownelles ship uppers to canada?

i have been looking for an upper without a bcg at canadian stores but it looks like all of them come with the bcg.

Sure, as long as it doesn't have any features that the state department find "un-sporting" (flash hider, threaded barrel, chambered in a military cartridge - EX 5.56 as opposed to .223)

BUT, you'll have to fill out the export paperwork and get the DSP-5/DSP-83 filled out. You're looking at months of waiting and a few hundred dollars for the application, which may be rejected.

For stuff over 100 bucks, its much simpler to buy in-canada, at least until I think 2013 when the new regulations go through and the limit goes up to 500 dollars without any money required for the application. even still a complete upper has a barrel which requires paperwork to be filled out.

You've ordered items (or an item) totalling more than $100, and speak from experience ?

Because this guy (in the "Brownells Importing Tutorial") didn't seem to have any issues ordering a stripped AR upper...

My special order A1 stripped upper arrived last week, and with no additional charges other than express mail US postal charge and our gov'ts tax collection fee of $8.
There was a roughly 3% fee earlier for Brownells to submit my paperwork.

Even lower receivers...

I ordered a stripped lower receiver from them not too long ago. From the day that I sent the paPerwork in to the day they shipped it was ten business days. not too bad.

JTF# - click the link I posted & follow the tutorial, but you might have an issue exporting an upper with a barrel installed (IDK)...

You can order items more than $100 providing the GUN PARTS in your order don't total more than $100. So if you order $95 worth of gun parts, and then throw a few tools and accessories onto the order you're still fine.

In fact you should be able to order over $100 retail value gun parts, provided the WHOLESALE VALUE is less than $100. I'm not sure if Brownells calculate it that way though, nor would I know how you would find out what the wholesale value is.

I have played Brownell roulette before. That's where you place an order >$100 that may or may not be legit and wait to see whether you get the "you need a license" email, or whether it goes through. Then knock a few parts off and resubmit the order until finally it goes through. Sandy must hate me :)

Nope, never ordered an AR upper or lower, that surprises me it went so fast.

Not sure if a barreled upper would be any different, but I would get something barreled in .223 or .223 wylde, I'm not sure if it would get limited because of a 5.56 chambering.

I thought barrels were a "restricted item", as were shotgun parts and registered actions/receivers...

But then again I guess they're letting lowers thru, so maybe non-miltary caliber (ie: 5.56 NATO or 7.62 NATO) barrels can make it..?

I've got a confirmation for an order I have to call in ($88), but I might add more to it so I can get all the paperwork done for next time I want to order $100 +.

* also, there might be an issue getting NFA short barrels (under 16")..?

JTF#,

Email Sandy and see if she has any experience shipping a complete upper to us. I'm sure she'll be able to tell you.

On another note, I ordered a CMMG 22lr barrel for my AR from Brownells. Just follow the import tutorial and you won't have any problems as long as the manufacturer is approved for export.

You can get almost anything from Brownells... if you are willing to do the paperwork. My friend ordered an upper, did all the paperwork, got it :)

It's a process though and some waiting.

From Brownells website:

There are a number of items which Brownells sells which need US State Department approval and an export license before they can be shipped out of the country. The regulations are complex and constantly changing but our staff is here to help you understand what is needed and will gladly work with you to correctly accomplish the task.

Generally speaking, items which usually need a license are:

Frames
Receivers
Barrels
Barrel Liners
Various other gun parts such as triggers, sears, ejectors, magazine tubes, scopes, and other items if the ordered amount is over $100.00 US.

I ordered and did receive a AR-15 Bolt carrier from them last year.

Yes, he'll need an export permit, but Brownells will gladly help him with the process. A barreled upper would be tougher to get approved because of things like chambering, muzzle devices, etc.. but they do still get approved from time to time.

Really, we can give all the advice you want but the people you need to be talking to are Brownells.
