So I've been looking for a good quality set for some minor gun-smithing on my rifles, scope mounting etc. I came across these for about $23. I'm just curious to know if anyone else is using them and the quality and performance they are getting out of the set?. I guess I'm asking is it a "good bang for the buck" . Thanks

I guess that I should have checked out some of the places like Home Depot or Lowes? Some research on the internet said that the "Geman" manufactures were the best? I"ve kinda always gone to Brownells for gun-smithing tools in the past.

Can't speak on the quality but make sure you get a shipping quote before closing the deal. I got roasted on my last two Brownells orders. Might not be feasible to buy the drivers if shipping is outlandish.

Shipping cost depends on what you buy and how much it costs. If it fits into the standard flat rate 9x6x6 box and is under $100 then the shipping cost is approx. $10.75. Once you go over $100 or cannot fit into the 9x6x6 box then the cost jumps up to approx $23. This is set by USPS not Brownell's. Sandy says that everything that they ship is insured. Max insurance by USPS for Priority Intrrnational on the flat rate box is $100. Blame it on USPS not Brownell's.

For gunsmithing work, you're better off buying a torque driver that accepts hex bits and pickup the torx bits you use the most instead of a full kit where you end up just using mostly 1 size out of the lot.

Ya, I see your point, this set was $23 plus $7 for shipping, I didn't want to buy the whole handle & bits as I have one for flat screws & allen. I suppose that I could still get the bits that I use most often?

You can easily pickup a set of security hex bit kit from ebay for around $25. They're cheap but they work well, at least the kit I got. Best option is to pick up the Wheeler Torque wrench kit which comes with a bunch of popular bits including torx bits.

I bought a set of all kinds of strange bits from Lee Valley. I think it was a one time deal but have a look. The current bits from Brownells are not like they used to be, I have twisted the crap out of many blades.

I ordered a scope rail for a remington 597 that was $14 and could have fit in an envelope.Shipping was $29. That was with the cheapest available shipping form. Also bought a 1" scope lapping rod and same shipping cost.Never had this happen with any previous brownell's dealings.
