And old colleague of mine lent me his old 12 gauge to use for a weekend under the pretense of me buying it off him.

Price was never discussed , some I'm wondering what a fair offer would be

Here's the info off the gun-
On the left side of the barrel
Browning Acier special c12 2 3/4
0kg, 872, squiggly 0, N with a star on top, PV with a lion, ELG circled with a crown. And them 12.70 circled.
"Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre Herstal- Belgium "is marked on top of the barrel.
By the load door- 'fn' is in a circle and 326548

On the butt plate-
Browning automatic with FN in the middle.

Gun is in fair condition, wood is a little rough and the barrel has a few safe kisses.
My colleague has owned it for over 50 years.
And it still shoots excellent.

One issue is it won't cycle, but I'm wondering if the ammo I used to test it, didn't have enough blow back to cycle it....? I was testing it with- 1255 velocity, 1 1/8 oz 4 shot.

Any info or advice or opinions are welcome!

Sounds like an A-5. Condition and choke is everything. No reason it shouldn't be cycling target shells. Adjust the friction rings or add some oil to the mag. tube.

It cycles the shells manually just fine, if I pull the Charging handle back by hand.
After firing a round the gun doesn't eject the spent shell and load a new one.
It is supposed to be semi auto.

Bottom load yes, right side eject and charging handle.

If it's an A-5 ( 90% chance it is), you have to adjust the tube, spring and friction rings by cleaning, lightly lubing and ensuring that the friction rings are set properly. PITA; but once set, it's a nice gun to use.
The entire bbl and breechblock recoil as one, not unlike an artillery piece. Stand it upright on the butt, grab the bbl firmly in both hands and apply downward pressure. The whole bbl should telescope into the action about the length of a shotgun shell.
Very cool. And it's obvious that this action will have less felt recoil as the movement of the bbl against the spring will dampen it.
I've an A-5 magnum, that I picked up cheap as the seller claimed the same problem as the one you are speaking of.
Works fine, just required a little adjustment of the friction rings ( google is your friend here).
