Browning 1885 Highwall Accuracy

Anybody got one of these in the larger caliber's, 270, 30-06 etc? How accurate are these guns at 2-300 yards. And if you have one: scoped or peeps? The peeps look really cool, are accurate, but I've got "older eyes", need glasses and wonder if the peeps would be a good choice?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
 
Try a gun with peep sights. You will probably find that they are more friendly on eyes that aren't quite what they used to be. Good light and the right sized apeture for what you are shooting are the key.

Brownings have a great reputation for accuracy, particularly for a gun with a 2 piece stock.
 
I had a Browning 1885 "Traditional Hunter" in .30/30, it was not as accurate as I had hoped, so I got rid of it......Similar to a Uberti Highwall I had, poor accuracy, so off it went. Now my C. Sharps Highwall is a diff. story, deadly with almost anything I feed it, it's the 45/70 I use for testing cast bullets, eliminating 1 variable anyways.
 
I had a B78 in 45/70 that would do 1.5" groups at 100 yards if I did my part...No small feat between the peeps sights and that curved metal butt plate.

Mine did exhibit a mild case of wandering zero...Not an ideal long range rifle.
 
mine is a scoped 7mm RM, and I wouldn't say it has "target gun" accuracy, but it is certainly good enough for hunting... it will shoot moa, which is more than good enough for moose. I guess there are some tweaks that can be done to make them more accurate as well.
I have not shot mine past 200yds though.

I shot a mule deer at a lasered ~430 yards last fall. (Bang-flop using a 140 grain Accubond) My middle-aged eyes are not capable of shooting irons or peeps at that range with any degree of accuracy so all my long range rifles wear good optics.

I have receiver sights on a couple of rifles - a 45-70 and a .22 rimfire - but they are both used at modest ranges.
