I originally bought this pistol for my GF to use because she has very tiny hands but now her arthritis just won't allow her to shoot anymore ,so I've had it to the range the last few trips and while I do enjoy it as a cheap fun gun, the sights leave a lot to be desired for these tired old eyes. So what are my options to change out the sights for something better? My little bit of research shows not too much available. I'd hate to get rid of it because of this. I also need to find another mag for it because yesterday morning the bottom polymer retainer piece fell out while I was shooting. It appears the 2 little ears broke on that piece that hold it in the mag.

Found a new mag at my LGS today however i just noticed today while cleaning the pistol that the plastic guide rod is in need of replacement. I'll give the same store a call tomorrow to see if they can source a new replacement ( preferably not in plastic ). Just in case I have no luck does anyone have source for one.

unfortunately I think your going to have a hard time replacing the guide rod and sights, they are definitely not a readily accessible replacement. I sold my first 1911-22 to my brother because I wasn't a fan of the sights and he just likes to pull the trigger. As for finding a guide rod that's not plastic that will be even harder, Mags are easy enough to source, usually in the $40-$50 range though.

When the pistols first came out I ended up sourcing a metal full length one from the US, but that was 8-9 years ago at least, never seen another since. In all 3 of my 1911-22's I've never seen a guide rod beat up like that in thousands and thousands of rounds, What ammo were you using?

Edit: A google search shows the metal ones for sale in a few places in the US, if they ship to Canada I am not sure, you'll have to find out.

I use mostly CCI target. I did find the one place in the US that sells the stainless steel full length rod for $49.99 USD, but will have to see if they ship to Canada. The end of the rod doesn't have the cutout that rides on the barrel though.

It doesn't need the cut out it has that little point that in sits in a little hole on the locking lug, I'll take a picture here
Ok now I remember the little hole that you're referring to. Totally forgot all about that. So I called my local gun store today to see if they had a replacement part they said it's something they would have to order but they were more concerned about what's causing it to be beat up like that and suggested I get a short-term authorization to transport and bring it into their store so they can see what's going on. Does this sound like the best option. I only ask because I'm no gunsmith.

Looking at your photo, to me it looks like your bushing plug is coming back and actually cutting the guide rod, wonder if it's a tad to long, possibly out of spec if you have a set of calipers maybe measure the length

.
That's a weird one. Caigory might be right, worth checking. I can't think of anything aside from a manufacturing defect. I'd take it in, what have you got to lose?

I'll definitely measure it when I get up this evening. I'm finally getting home from night shift since early this morning after doctor's appointment and need some sleep.

Not sure what the proper measurements should be but this is what it measures overall and inside depth.

Your thoughts just might be correct. It lines up perfectly. Question is why though.

I'll pull a few of mine apart and measure them, see if they are a tad shorter. Taking some material off the back of the plug might help, I'll take look in my parts stash and see if I have my old guide rod, I'd make ya a good deal on it and it would get you back shooting without waiting months for a gunsmith to replace the same part. I'll update this post in a few minutes with what I find.

Edit: Alright so upon further inspection, It definitely is not the bushing plug, Its not deep enough for it to physically come back and touch it, That only leaves your dust cover itself coming back and cutting a groove in it. if you were using stingers or velocitors or something else hyper velocity I could see if happening, but if your only using regular high velocity ammo it should be, So my next bet would be an inconsistency in the polymer guide rod.

Actually looking at your photo your plug is able to touch the the back of the guide rod where mine here can not, so we've definitely got it narrowed to that now, so one of the two is too short, I'll measure both here right now.
there's not a hole in the end of your bushing plug is there?
see here its unable to actually touch,

so things are getting interesting now, Mine are a fair bit shorter than yours but still wont touch the end of the bushing plug.
I'd wager your guide rod is too short, My plug and rod should solve your issues. Shoot me a PM and we'll get ya sorted.

The guide rod is pretty close to yours but my bushing is much longer for sure. In fact I don't even think the guide rod bottoms out in the bushing. I believe there's a little bit of space still.
