I was in P&D today and the Browning Rep was talking about an 80% size version of a 5" 1911 (4.25" in the small version) in .22LR.

The plastic 'concept model' was very slim and small, quite appealing.

Then I did some research and apparently the slide will be made of aluminum. Ah well, I'll pass on it.

I chatted with the rep about that when I went into P & D for lunch. It is made by STI for them. Don't worry about the alloy slide, my GSG 1911 22 had about 2,000 rounds through it and shoots like a dream. I might just pick up one of the Brownings so I can teach those people in my world with the smaller hands!

Most 1911 conversion kits that use a full size slide have it made from aluminum. It would be too heavy to function properly if it were made of steel.

Personally, I would be more willing to accept aluminum than some sort of zinc alloy (aka pot metal).

There's already a Browning 1911 .22lr thread going on farther down the page.... ;)
